Nearly a year has passed since the PokerStars Macau announcement of the 2012 Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) and the official Macau leg for APPT Season 6 is now only 2 weeks away from its October 26 launch.

The region has previously focused on poker tournaments between HKD $10,000-40,000 so there’s been a real buzz for the ACOP which features a HKD $100,000 (US $13,000) Main Event that comes with a HKD $10M (US $1.3M) guarantee.

2-time World Champion Johnny Chan is amongst the latest names to be added to the confirmation list which already includes former tour champions Jonathan ‘xMONSTERxDONGx’ Karamalikis (2010 APPT Sydney), Sam Razavi (2012 APPT Melbourne), and Team PokerStars member Randy ‘nanonoko’ Lew who won last year’s APPT Macau.

“I’m coming back to Macau and I’m not going to be surprised when this tournament is bigger and the tournaments in Macau become one of the largest around the world.” said Lew, who is joined by fellow Team PokerStars players Bertand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Eugene Katchalov, Angel Guillen, Celina Lin, Vivian Im, Bryan Huang, Raymond Wu, and Naoya Kihara.

The 17-day schedule has a SCOOP-like feel to it as the ACOP Title Events – which range from HKD $8,000 to $250,000 buyins – are matched with smaller buyin versions of the same poker variant to accommodate poker enthusiasts of all bankrolls.

Asia’s appetite for poker is exponentially growing and the ACOP is destined to be amongst the PokerStars ‘must-play’ events of the future.
