Home / Uncategorized / ANZPT Sydney: Hello Perth, Welcome to Sydney

With the recent incident behind us, the bubble long burst and only a around one level of poker remaining in the penultimate day of action, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at some of the players who are still alive in the tournament and therefore in with a chance to make up a spot on tomorrow’s final day of play.

The most interesting dynamic in the tournament right now is the fact that the players who finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 8th in the recent ANZPT Perth Main Event are still alive. We are of course referring to the champion Dejan Divkovic, the runner-up Iori Yogo, all round Aussie crusher Dale Marsland and 8th-place finisher Luke Brabin. The crazy thing about these four players still being alive is that all of them have plenty of chips to try and make it back-to-back ANZPT final tables. Of these three it is Japan’s Yogo who is doing the best, with his chip stack of over 800,000.

With that monster stack above, Yogo is actually the chip leader of the entire tournament right now. We have checked in with the team at PokerStars and it is likely that he would take the lead on the ANZ Player of the Year leader board if he managed to make the final table here in Sydney – depending of course on the results of Marsland, Divkovic and Brabin. That would be a huge result for Yogo and while we are still quite a while off the final table, he is certainly putting himself in a good position to go all the way.

There are plenty of other notable players going deep here in the ANZPT Sydney Main Event, including Michael “WaGe N WaRz” Fadersen, Adam Carlton, Trung Tran, Ben “bazooka87” Gilholme, Brendon Rubie and Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Gary Benson. Also still alive and doing fine is one of the highest profile players in the field, Dan Kelly. Known by his screen name “djk123”, Kelly is one of the most decorated online tournament players in the history of the game, having more than $4 million in tracked tournament results on PokerStars alone. Kelly was recently down to around 20 big blinds, but managed to double up when he got all his chips in holding A-Q against the pocket queens of an opponent. Let’s see if he can survive the night.

Clearly it is shaping up to be one of the most stacked ANZPT final tables in a long while, but only time will tell exactly who will make up the final nine. Before we get there though, we need to finish up Day 2 and bag up the chips before coming back for the final day of play tomorrow. Word on the street is that there will be at least three tables who survive the night. That will make for one long final day of poker action tomorrow.
