There are many big names playing here on Day 1a of the ANZPT Main Event. Among our field of 242 we find a wealth of notable names who would gather plenty of attention at any poker table in the world. We have Australian Poker Hall of Famers, Aussie Millions champions and even a few WSOP bracelet winners.

One table in particular recently caught our attention. It was already looking rather intimidating when Aussie guns Tom Grigg and Michael Guzzardi were sitting with veteran Curly Seal and Kiwi wrecking ball Phil Willcocks. However that line up got even tougher when none other than Jarrad Graham joined the table. Graham often prefers the high-stakes cash games over the grind of tournaments, but he also understands the significance of big victories having won a WSOP bracelet himself in 2013.

While that’s certainly one table to watch this evening, on a nearby table we’ve found the lone red spade in the field in PokerStars Team Online member Roy Bhasin.

Usually preferring the online grind, “GodLikeRoy” has recently been undertaking a “Run It Up Challenge” where he was grinding on small stakes to build up his online bankroll. Unfortunately that challenge didn’t end too well, but if you’re a follower of Roy’s blog you were treated to an MS Paint hand drawing of his progress which in itself made the challenge worthwhile:

On the live poker felt, things have been equally as challenging for Bhasin. After building up his stack early on Day 1a of the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event, Bhasin tangled with an opponent on a board of 2♣ 6♥ 9â™  9♥ . Things looked pretty rosy for Bhasin who held 10♦ 9♦ against his opponent’s 9♣ 8♣ but a brutal 8♥ river card delivered his opponent a full house for the double up.

Bhasin was knocked down but fortunately a short time later landed a double up with pocket aces through everyone’s favourite villain, the Capitao himself, Oliver Gill, who held pocket eights. Bhasin is back up to 25,000, which is a little under average, as he looks to survive the day and reach Day 2.

The players have just taken then final break of the day, with two more levels to go this evening. Tristan Bain is still our chip leader with youngsters Alex Lynskey and Adrian Attenborough also building big stacks.
