We hope you squeezed in a couple hours of shut eye, because we’re back at The Star bright and early (at least in poker terms) for Day 1B of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event. Again we’re looking at a close to a full house today as we push towards matching last year’s number of 460 runners.

Our line up today includes the likes of Dennis Huntly, Todor Kondevski, Nam Le, John Maklouf, Ricky Kroesen, Michel Bouskila, Nathan Gubieski, Matthew Wakeman, Brendon Rubie, Ash Mason, Jesse McKenzie, Ben McLean, Dale Marsland, Patrick Healy, Dean Blatt, Dan Neilson, Errolyn Strang, Oliver Gill, former ANZPT Gold Coast champ Peter Matusik, previous Aussie Millions Main Event winner David Gorr, Australian Poker Hall of Famer Gary Benson, WSOP bracelet winner Christina Pie, ANZ Player of the Year leader Sal Fazzino and Full Tilt Ambassador Liam O’Rourke.

The ANZPT Sydney event is also well known for attracting international visitors. Perhaps it’s the lure of the big prize pool but Sydney itself is a big drawcard for players to come to Australia to play a little poker and see the sites.

American Kevin Rabinchow is coming off a deep run in the Aussie Millions Main Event where he finished in 32nd place and he’s one of the internationals in this field. We’ve also spotted Jake Balsiger who is a former WSOP “Octo-Niner” for finishing 3rd in the WSOP Main Event. Balsiger has been travelling around Australia after the Aussie Millions and added the ANZPT Sydney Main Event to his itinerary.

Another American who is enjoying his time travelling around the region is Patrick Mahoney. Fresh from his victory at the ANZPT Perth event, Mahoney spent some time in Adelaide, and then in Queenstown in New Zealand before arriving in Sydney to try and become the first back-to-back ANZPT champ.

We’ve also spotted Ben Benoit in the field. The New Caledonian would be virtually unknown in this field, but Benoit is clearly riding the wave after finishing in third place in the inaugural New Caledonia Poker Open just last week.

The cards are in the air on Day 1B with another eight levels set to be played. The good news today is that rather than a 4am finish, we’ll be wrapped up around 10pm and just in time to grab a refreshing beverage at tonight’s players party.
