Friday nights are my favourite time of the week. Sure Saturdays are fun, and lazy Sundays are great, but nothing beats the feeling of the working week coming to an end. The stresses of a hard week in the office can be put to the side. You can remove the tie and relax with a cold beer or five.

I’ve always wondered whether my love of Friday nights simply dates back to those boring office worker days. Do poker players love Friday nights as much as I do?

I mean, a professional poker player doesn’t really have a weekend to look forward to do they? They don’t have set work hours. They don’t have a boss to bitch about at the bar. But no matter what your background, Friday nights do offer many attractions.

Firstly there’s beer. A national pastime in itself in Australia. It’s scientifically proven to be at its coldest on Fridays and enjoyed by one and all.

Then there’s sport. The weekend’s sporting contests usually start on Friday evenings. Even up here in Sydney, where they prefer that silly rugby game, there’s going to be a plethora of sporting options to enjoy. At the other end of The Star casino, there’s a dedicated sports bar with over 50 LCD screens and three mega screens to display every possible live sporting event you can think of. Tonight there will be AFL, NRL, T20 cricket, Horse Racing and soccer, just to name a few.

Once the sports wrap up, hopefully patrons won’t have punted off their entire bankrolls so they’ll have time to kick on and enjoy some of the live entertainment on offer at The Star and all around Sydney CBD. Another great Friday night activity.

Right next to the poker room is the Rock Lily lounge which was blaring out music last night and we expect to crank up again very shortly. The Star has a number of great bars and clubs including the internationally acclaimed Marquee nightclubLocated on the top tier of The Star with stunning views of the harbour and city, Marquee offers over 20,000 square feet of floor space including three distinct entertainment spaces.

That’s where you might find some of our ANZPT Sydney Main Event players later this evening. At least, those who have busted and looking to unwind. They include the likes of the well-dressed Didier Guerin and the lavish locks of Liam O’Rourke. Lucky those two are looking sharp enough to head straight to the dance floor. Others to fall today include Stev Lackovic, Ricky Kroesen and Dennis Huntly.

Meanwhile some who might be considering an early night are our chip leaders. They include Marcel Naboulsi who already has a commanding stack, with Luke Brabin, Tom Rafferty, Luca Berreggine and Jake Balsiger also going well with two levels left to play this evening.
