Valentine’s Day.

Usually a time for romantic gestures and spending time with a special someone.

Today on Day 3 of the ANZPT Main Event, however, it’s all about accumulating chips as we approach the money. For the players here, surviving to the final table would be the perfect Valentine’s gift from Lady Luck.

And speaking of ladies, there are still a few in contention for this Main Event title here at Crown Perth.

It’s no secret that poker is a male dominated enterprise, but of the 36 players to take their seats this morning, five women were among the field.

Xuan Liu, Yaxi Zhu, Natalia Breviglieri, Tamara Volkoff and Tanja Vujanic all pulled up seats this afternoon to continue the hunt for an ANZPT final table.

After finishing yesterday with a top ten stack, Canadian pro Xuan Liu is flying the flag for the Femme Fatales. With a recent second place finish in the Aussie Millions Six Max Event for $71,500, we’ll see if she can make another deep run in Australia.

Liu started today with 143,000 in chips and seems primed to add to her US$1,509,535 in live cashes.

Liu will be one to watch, but it’s Yaxi Zhu from China who is leading the way for the ladies here at Crown Perth. She started the day fifth in chips with 152,800. Zhu’s first live cash was only last year, her best score US$147,980 for first place in an EPT side event last December.

Zhu is the partner of Australian WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Lim, and already has close to $US250,000 to her name. This half of the power couple looks set to make a deep run in the ANZPT Main Event here this week.

It wasn’t a great start to the day for one of the ladies, however, as Tanja Vujanic made an early exit. She found herself all in preflop with K♥ Qâ™  against the A♥ Q♣ of Wayde Rickhuss. The board of 9â™  9♣ 10â™  3♦ 5♦ was no help to see her eliminated just shy of the money.

There are still four ladies vying for first place on this Valentine’s Day at the felt. We’ll be watching closely to see if one of them can take down the Main Event title here in Perth.
