Home / Uncategorized / APPT Cebu: Jacky joins the rail

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching Jacky Wang ply his trade here in Cebu this week. He’s a likable character and extremely friendly both on and off the tables. He’s always happy to have a chat and usually does it with a big smile on his face.

He’s also an entertaining player to watch. He’ll provide plenty of fast play and table banter that poker bloggers love. Last night he provided the most thrilling moment of the tournament so far when his pocket jacks managed to pull a remarkable backdoor straight to better Antoine Amourette’s pocket queens. The room was buzzing with energy and it’s that sort of infectious energy that Wang brings with him wherever he goes.

Unfortunately today Wang wasn’t able to get much going. He was caught in a tough spot with the solid Nick Wong to his right, and the aggressive duo of Hoang Anh Do and Michael Kanaan to his left. So when Alistair Duff opened with a raise to 32,000 from the button, Wang thought briefly in the big blind before putting two fingers together and motioning to the dealer for the triangle all-in button. It was a raise to 313,000 but the all-in button had barely kissed the felt in front of him before Duff committed to the call with Aâ™  J♦ , to leave Wang’s K♦ Jâ™  in deep trouble.

Could Wang pull another one from the clouds? Sadly no, as the board bricked out rather uneventfully to end Wang’s time in the APPT Cebu Main Event.

Wang’s 7th place is worth PHP823,000 for the biggest cash of his career. He’ll no doubt be a little disappointed, but those are the high expectations of someone that is destined for greater honours. Jacky Wang will be back. Watch this space.
