Home / Uncategorized / APPT Macau: Gaw grabs lead to end Day 2 in ACOP Main Event

Sixty minutes into the 90-minute Level 10, play has been stopped for the night. Just 56 players remain from the starting field of 184, with Andrew Gaw of the Philippines ending the day atop the counts followed by end-of-Day-1 leader Yue Hin Lam (Macau) and Xing Zhou (China).

Team Pros Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Maxim Lykov, Eugene Katchalov, and Bryan Huang all fell on Day 2, as did Randy “nanonoko” Lew and Naoya Kihara of Team Online.

Others hitting the rail today included Hirotoshi Nakabo, high roller Masa Kagawa, Michael Benvenuti, Timothy Finne, David Martirosyan, Danny Wong, David Steicke, Joseph Cheong, Dominik Nitsche, Julian Powell, Brendon Rubie, Jackie Glazer, and Jonathan Karamalikis.

Meanwhile, Gaw, Lam, and Zhou had moved into the top spots on the leaderboard with a couple of hours left to go, and that’s where they ended up with Gaw leading (329,200), followed by Lam (303,900), and Zhou (298,000).

Among the remaining Team Pros, Raymond Wu ended the day in the best shape with 144,900, with Vivian Im (33,700), Celina Lin (29,900), and Angel Guillen (10,700) all set to return to below average stacks.

Joining Im and Lin are two other women still remaining in the field, Yuri Ishida of Japan (107,900) and Jennette “Jay” Tan (41,200).

Tomorrow’s plan for Day 3 will be to play until 22 players remain and the cash bubble bursts or through the end of Level 16, whichever comes first. More likely we’ll see the former, as expectations are they’ll reach the money Friday. Then on Saturday they’ll return to begin the business of deciding how exactly the remaining players will be dividing up the 17,305,200 Hong Kong dollars that make up the ACOP Main Event prize pool.

Check the box above for full chip counts and the Day 3 table draw. And here’s Lynn Gilmartin with APPT President Danny McDonagh once more with the “nightly notables”:
