The purchase of Full Tilt Poker by the Rational Group, who also own PokerStars, has had a number of benefits for players in the Asia-Pacific region.

Firstly players were reunited with funds that were frozen on the site, before they were then allowed to access the games that they loved. The crazy cat and deadly ninja avatars were back and all was good.

More recently Full Tilt Poker started to provide satellites to live events and the APPT Queenstown was the first opportunity for players in this region to qualify for a live event on FTP. A number of satellites were held with a total of five players winning their way through and taking their seats in the Main Event.

One of the added bonuses added for Full Tilt qualifiers was a “last longer” prize that was up for grabs amongst only the qualifiers. That prize was entry into the ANZPT Auckland Main Event in November valued at NZ$2,200. And that prize went to local Kiwi Andrew Forsman.

A horse trainer by day, Forsman enjoys the occasional dabble online and binked himself a seat for here in Queenstown. Forsman had a strong day yesterday, but things haven’t gone so well today on Day 3 as his tournament was recently brought to an end in 20th place.

Forsman was getting short and shoved a strong A♣ Q♥ from the small blind, only to find Raj Ramakrishnan wake up with A♦ A♥ in the big blind to make the easy call. There were no surprises on board as Forsman found himself heading home just a handful of places short of the money.

The APPT Auckland Main Event entry will be a small consolation prize and we look forward to seeing Andrew try his luck again in Auckland.

One of the other perks of being a Full Tilt Poker qualifier was the meet and greet dinner held at Surreal restaurant. The qualifiers got to mingle with newly appointed FTP ambassadors Tom Grigg and Liam O’Rourke with plenty of great food, laughs and a few beverages enjoyed. Check it out…
