After another eight hours of play here at Crown Casino our official final table is set at last. At the start of the day there were 62 still in contention and now only seven remain in the hunt for the APPT Main Event title, the trophy, and A$235,875.
Leading the way is Ashish Gupta who played the role of terminator while accumulating 2.22 million in chips. Gupta eliminated four players in the later stages of proceedings to secure the top spot going into tomorrow. The last of those eliminations came when Gupta sent Richard Zebrovius home with pocket aces against pocket tens for a 650,000 chip pot.
Gupta has amassed $238,951 in live career earnings so far and his biggest score to date was A$66,235 back in January for third place in an Aussie Millions Six Max event. He’ll need to finish at least fourth to eclipse that record here this week and has found himself in a great position to do so.
While Gupta should be ecstatic the same can’t be said for Peter Aristidou. He was eliminated in the final hand of the day to earn the title of our official final table bubble boy. Aristidou was a non-believer in a hand against Trung Tran and called off for his tournament life with J♥ J♦ on board reading 2♣ Qâ™ 4♥ Q♥ 2â™ . It was no good with Tran tabling K♣ Q♣ to send Aristidou packing and signal the end of play.
Start-of-day chip leader Tristan Bain also found the rail in the second half of the day. He had a rollercoaster ride on the felt but ultimately ran the last of his chips into Tran’s Q♥ Q♣ holding just 10♦ 9♦ . Bain couldn’t take the lead and would have to be happy with a 15th place finish.
