It appears that there won’t be too many changes at the top of the leader board in the ANZ Player of the Year race after the recent elimination of Luke Brabin from the APPT Queenstown Main Event.

Brabin committed his last chips in on a flop of A♦ A♣ 3♣ holding A♥ 9♥ for trip nines, but he ran into Jackson Zheng’s Aâ™  3♦ for a flopped full house. Brabin couldn’t find a life-saving nine on the turn or river and was eliminated short of the money as the first casualty of the day.

Brabin is currently sitting in 4th place on the ANZ POTY leaderboard, but he won’t be adding any bonus points here in Queenstown, which will means that Iori Yogo, Dejan Divkovic and Michael Guzzardi are likely to hang on to the top three spots.

Daniel Neilson (25th), Ricky Kroesen (40th) and Geoff Smith (70th) are the only players still in contention in the APPT Queenstown Main Event who could leap up the leader board, but even a win in Queenstown is not going to be enough to dislodge Japanese star Iori Yogo from the #1 ranking.

Following Queenstown, there’s only one more event in the season to grab points in the ANZ POTY race. That event is the APPT Melbourne at Crown Casino which runs from September 5th – 9th. It will be a big field so there should be plenty of points on offer.

If Yogo can maintain his position, he’ll win sponsorship into four APPT Season 8 Main Events, plus US$1,500 towards travel costs. The runner up also receives entry into four ANZPT Season 6 Main Events, plus US$1,000 in travel costs. These sponsorship packages are valued at over $40,000 which is tremendous added value for those regular players in the Asia-Pacific region.
