Home / Uncategorized / APPT7 Queenstown: Bredin leads strong final table

At the start of the day we predicted that we’d need six levels to see our returning field of 23 reduce to just a final table of nine. Well, we were slightly wrong. We only needed five levels and 50 minutes. Those ten minutes are going to come in very handy tonight!

It was Jonathan Bredin who came into the day with the chip lead, and now, 14 eliminations later, its Bredin who remains on top after another super day on the felt of the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino.

Bredin is looking more and more relaxed at the table, sharing some laughs with the table throughout the day and enjoying his success so far in this event. Can he now carry that lead all the way to the title?

Earlier in the day, our first goal was to remove eight unlucky punters short of the money. Luke Brabin was first to go – a result which would leave Iori Yogo safe on top of the ANZ Player of the Year leader board. Casey Kastle, Full Tilt Poker qualifier Andrew Forsman and ANZPT Auckland champ Geoff Smith were among those to go home empty-handed before Kiwi Karl Radel was the unlucky bubble boy after running ace-jack into the ace-king of Daniel Laidlaw.

From there, the players filed to the cashier to receive some reward for their three days of efforts. Madis Muur (15th), William Qiu (14th), Asj Taylor (13th), Lukas Byrns (12th) and Kenny Frisby (11th) picked up a nice profit in Queenstown before all attention was on the final table bubble.

There were some concerns from the tables when it was announced that there would be no hand-for-hand on the final table bubble, but the pace of play remained pretty quick throughout. Chiu Lee was splashing around his short stack, while Daniel Neilson was in desperation mode after losing two sizable pots against Jonathan Bredin. The second hand saw Neilson’s nines run into Bredin’s kings to see Neilson, as arguably the most experienced remaining player, on the verge of elimination.

Neilson was able to secure a double up with 7♣ 8♣ against Jackson Zheng’s pocket sixes to leave the pressure on the Kiwi. Moments later, Zheng three-bet all in from the small blind with A♣ 6♦ but Ricky Kroesen woke up with 9♥ 9â™  in the big blind to make the call. The board bricked out and Zheng was sent reeling in 10th place. It’s a feeling he’s familiar with after also finishing on the final table bubble of this event back in 2011.

Here’s how they will line up for the final table tomorrow:

Seat 1: Daniel Laidlaw (Australia) – 106,000
Seat 2: Jon Pierre Narbey (New Zealand) – 408,000
Seat 3: Chiu Yeung Lee (New Zealand) – 161,000
Seat 4: Jonathan Bredin (Australia) – 657,000
Seat 5: Colin Carpenter (Australia) – 89,000
Seat 6: Raj Ramakrishnan (Australia) – 271,000
Seat 7: Ricky Kroesen (Australia) – 241,000
Seat 8: Daniel Neilson (Australia) – 122,000

Jonathan Bredin remains in control, with Jon Pierre Narbey next best as one of just two Kiwis on this final table. The experienced Daniel Laidlaw, Ricky Kroesen and Daniel Neilson will also pose a real threat as they eye off their first APPT crown.

Play will recommence at 12:30pm on Sunday and we hope that you will join us once again for all the live action as it unfolds here at the APPT Queenstown!
