APPT7 Queenstown: It’s go time!

August 03, 2013

126 players took their seats three days ago in the APPT Queenstown Main Event with dreams of fame and fortune, but now those dreams are still alive for just nine. They are here today in the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino for the last stanza — the final table and just eight eliminations from crowning a new champion in the Asia Pacific.

Leading the way is a man we’ve watched closely over the last few days in Melbourne’s Jonathan Bredin. This is his first ever APPT event after winning through on PokerStars, and he’s making the most of the opportunity to maintain his Day 2 lead all the way to this final table. If he can go all the way, it will be an inspirational story that will warm the hearts of the entire poker community.

It will be a tough challenge for Bredin under the bright lights of the final table. He’s up against several well-known professionals who have been in this place many times before. For the likes of Daniel Neilson, Daniel Laidlaw, Raj Ramakrishnan and Ricky Kroesen, they know what it means to be in this spot and will be desperate to grab their first APPT title.

The locals will also be looking to keep this title on home soil — something that they’ve been unable to achieve in the four-year history of this event. Three Australians and a German backpacker have captured the crown previously here in Queenstown, but this year, the locals will be relying on Jon-Pierre Narbey and Chiu Yeung Lee to carry the hopes for the Kiwis.

The final table has been set up out on the main gaming floor, and while the audience is a little sparse at the moment, it should fill out later in the day and provide an exciting atmosphere for our final table participants.

There are a few Internet gremlins around today, so please bare with us as we bring you coverage of the APPT Queenstown final table throughout the day. The directive has now been given to shuffle up and deal as this one is under way!
