Today is the third and final Day 1 flight of the 2015 Aussie Millions Poker Championship.

It’s the moment of truth.

You see, the first two Day 1 flights have already surpassed last year’s equivalent days by a combined 27 entrants. That means Flight 3 only needs 312 players to equal last year’s field of 668 players.

It’s safe to say the trend at all poker tournaments around in the world is for the final Day 1 flight to host the largest field. That’s certainly the case at the Aussie Millions.

In 2014, Flight 3 saw 328 entrants. If we get that today, the total field will be 684 and for the second year in a row the Aussie Millions Main Event will experience growth.

Those same two years also happen to be the years that the Asia Pacific Poker Tour has partnered with the Aussie Millions.

The day is just moments away from kicking off and the room is packed.

Hopes are high.

Lots of players, however, tend to be standing on the rail and not heading to the tables. They are slowly easing into the day. Perhaps the almost 14-hours it takes to make it through the Day 1 flights is a deterrent to taking to the felt too early.

Railbirds or potential players?

What we do know about today is that some of the biggest names in the world will be at the felt. They might have played over the last two Day 1 flights but the $100,000 was busy stealing their attention.

That event made it to a final table last night, but now they have several days off before returning to film the conclusion for TV. The best thing for these players is that there is no scheduling conflict with the Main Event. They could theoretically win both if they so desired and the cards fell the right way.

And, hey, what better mindset to go into the Main Event than with $310,000 already locked up and a chance to make $1,870,000.

Some of the players that will have that privilege include $100,000 Challenge final table chip leader Ole Schemion, poker legend Erik Seidel and Scott Seiver.

Seidel actually seemed to be considering skipping the Main Event after an exhausting day in the $100,000 Challenge.

But luckily he was talked out of it.

Someone from the $100,000 Challenge who will be treating the Main Event as a redemption story is Dan Smith. The prominent American pro was brutally bounced as the bubble boy in the $100,000 Challenge late last night. He’s already been spotted heading for the Main Event tables, so he’s clearly keen to get busy.

To be honest, there will be just far too many prominent players hitting the felt today that we can mention. One more player I will mention, however, is India’s Aditya Argawal. This Aussie Millions is his first outing as a Team PokerStars Pro and so he will be eager to prove himself. We are also eager to see him in action.
