Home / Uncategorized / APPT9 Manila: We like to party

If there a few weary players, staff and media floating around the tournament floor today, then they probably have good reason.

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour has always been more than just a poker tournament. It’s a poker experience.

Playing a game of cards is only part of the reason why the APPT is the largest and most-recognised poker tour in the Asia-Pacific region. The APPT has always offered players more than just poker when they travel to a poker destination. The APPT is about the people, the venue, the hospitality and the entertainment.

Part of that entertainment has always been the traditional Player’s Welcome Party. It’s a night that has become famous for drinks, laughs, games, dancing, side bets and, as some are discovering today, sore heads.

After play had wrapped up on Day 1b of the APPT Manila Main Event yesterday, players wandered down the corridor and straight into to Chaos nightclub at the City of Dreams.

With VIP access slapped around their wrists, players were ushered to their own private bar (of the open variety of course) where the drinks were flowing throughout the evening. The bar area overlooked the dance floor area where a DJ had the crowd jumping with great enthusiasm with his thumping beats.

Everyone was having a great time. Some peaked a little early (looking at you Peds), but there were some who were in for the long haul with whispers today of a 9am finish for some. Yes, they know how to party on the APPT!

After a few hours of shut-eye, everyone has dusted themselves off and the players have jumped back on the tables for the continuation of the APPT Manila Main Event. A short time ago, there were just over 100 players remaining, so we’re getting close to the money. I’m sure the smell of the cash will soon wake up anyone who might be dozing off at the tables!
