The hangover is real. There are a few weary faces in the field here for Day 1B of the APPT9 Seoul Main Event after many joined the fun at Focus Lounge for the Welcome Party last night.
Braving the chill in the air, players and staff hopped a shuttle bus from the Paradise Walkerhill Casino for a night of music, great food, and bottomless drinks. It seemed some were still in poker mode, discussing hands and strategy on the drive, but everyone was quick to loosen up when we arrived.
Walking into the Focus Lounge we were greeted by the song that should hail the beginning of any epic night, Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’. Down the steps and into the club we saw flashes of tables filled with food and buckets of alcohol between the colourful light display.
The beers were flowing as players enjoyed some traditional spicy chicken and tteokbokki dishes while they took time out from the poker grind. Buffalo wings and wedges were also on offer for the less adventurous.
APPT President Danny McDonagh grabbed a microphone to draw the raffle. PokerStars were giving away a tablet and a trip to Macau for two lucky players.
The Team PokerStars Pros were out and about. Bertrand ElkY Grospellier was enjoying himself after busting from the Main Event, while Aditya Agarwal was at the bar handing out shots.
Bryan Huang was pitching his idea for a blog article about the success of his poker friends and the importance of having a good team around you, so watch out for that one soon.
Taiwanese rapper MC HotDog was there, as was Australian poker boss Stevan Chew. Both are in the field today for Day 1B so they likely took it easy on the alcohol, or are feeling it today.
We left relatively early needing rest to report today, but the story goes that a few players partied until early hours of the morning. Whether people drank a little too much or simply enjoyed some great food and a fun atmosphere, it was certainly an entertaining night.
Hopefully players aren’t affected too much at the tables today due to their decisions last night. We’ll be here in the poker room following all the action this week for the APPT9 Seoul Main Event.
