Student Arnoud van der Werf won the £120 EPT London Charity Event in aid of Cancer Research UK. The 22-year-old from Amsterdam won when his pocket queens hit made a set on the flop against Malaysian player Tim Hong Wong’s pocket kings. There were a 646 entries including re-buys.
Van der Werf said: “I have played a few live events. I played UKIPT Dublin and came 17th but this is my best live result. Actually I only came because my friend was playing the EPT London Main Event but I’m glad I did.”
Among those who competed in the tourney, which has raised over £20,000 for Cancer Research UK, was British Team PokerStars Pro Julian Thew, EPTLive commentator Nick Wealthall, EPT founder John Duthie and Dutchman Joeri Zandvliet, the UKIPT Manchester champion.
The event, which ran October 2-4 at London’s Hilton Metropole Hotel, had a guaranteed prize pool of £100k and £10 from each buy-in went to Cancer Research UK with PokerStars pledging to match this as well as all player donations. A total of 64 players were paid.
