We already mentioned that Team PokerStars Pro Naoya Kihara was representing in today’s Day 1a field, but he’s no longer the lone red spade in the room. After taking some time out to enjoy the city of Melbourne earlier, we were joined late in the afternoon by none other than English rose Liv Boeree.

This is not Boeree’s first trip to Australia. She’s a big fan of this country, and in fact, Boeree has an Aussie Millions final table appearance to her credit back in 2009 with a 7th place in an AU$1,100 side event.

Boeree has started 2014 with a bang. After a nice score in the PCA Main Event, she headed back home where she came awfully close to winning a UKIPT event in Edinburgh. She missed out on the title but second place was still worth £59,180.

Continuing to rack up the frequent flyer miles, Boeree arrived in Australia a few days ago, and immediately made an impact with the Aussie fans with a deep run in the AU$1,100 Accumulator Event. She eventually finished in 13th place for AU$7,150 in prize money to add to her $2.4 million in career earnings. That puts her in the top 10 female tournament money earners of all time.

Boeree is now in the Main Event, seated alongside Australian Poker Hall of Famer Gary Benson, and she’s looking for another big result to continue her hot streak this year. At worst, she’s now got a sweet pair of new headphones…

On the other side of the Crown Poker Room, the $25,000 Challenge recently kicked off with over 50 players in action. This number is already close to double last year’s number which is a fantastic result.

The likely suspects are in attendance and include Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Jonathan Duhamel, Ike Haxton, Angel Guillen and Jason Mercier. The final table of this event will take place tomorrow so we hope to see one or more of these guys make it through.

Also going strong is Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin. She’s playing the $1,650 No Limit Holdem Bounty Event on the far side of the room. That event attracted a huge 257 runners, and with AU$85,500 for the winner, we’re hoping Asia’s poker queen can go all the way!
