Home / Uncategorized / Aussie Millions Day 3: Money talks on bubble day

37 players. We don’t know who they are. We don’t know what $10,600 means to them or how seriously they take poker. It’s just a fact that 37 players of the 109 remaining will go home empty handed today.

You see, today is the money day. It’s the day that the bubble will burst, it’s the day the players start filtering home with either a bad beat story and no money, or a bad beat story and a little more than their buy-in.

Where are the unlucky players sitting in the Crown Poker Room?

Being the short stack certainly doesn’t guarantee that a player will go home empty handed today, however it certainly doesn’t help. Just as I sit typing this and the first hands of the day are being dealt and I’ve heard two different dealers shout “One gone on table…” and “Lost one on table…”.

Just a couple of the 37 players who won’t have good memories of Day 3.

A few of the players who will be hoping to make Day 3 a meaningful one go by the names Sorel Mizzi, Phillip Willcocks and Gareth Dwyer. They are the players who emptied the heftiest chip bag this morning. Willcocks, from New Zealand, is the overall leader with 510,600 in chips, while Mizzi and Dwyer aren’t all that far behind.

There are still six Team PokerStars Pros remaining and none of them are in danger mode just yet. The shortest of them is Randy “nanonoko” Lew, but he still has 40 big blinds and plenty of experience to help him guide his way through Day 3. Lew is the only Team PokerStars pro who has an APPT title on his resume. He took down the Macau Main Event in 2011

The other Team Pros still alive include Jason Mercier, Angel Guillen, Raymond Wu, Liv Boeree and Jonathan Duhamel. Wu has the most chips of all the team members. He’s one of the notable big stacks along with players such as 2008 APPT Sydney champion Martin Rowe, Darren Rabinowitz, Antonio Esfandiari, Scott Seiver, John Juanda and Eoghan O’Dea.

The bubble is expected to burst at some point during the first couple of levels and right here at the PokerStars Blog will be the best place to find out who the unlucky player is.

There are live updates on the Aussie Millions page provided by Donnie Peters and co, while I will be here, trying my best to unearth some interesting stories as they start to emerge throughout Day 3 of the Main Event.
