Damián “pampa27” Salas tops 12/4/12 Super Tuesday, earns $93,860

December 05, 2012

It was yet another huge week for the Super Tuesday, with the total field coming just shy of cracking 500 players once again. A total of 494 came out this time, making for a $494,000 prize pool, once again smashing the $300K guarantee. The top 63 finishers divided that money, and after a little over 11 hours of poker it was Damián “pampa27” Salas of Argentina topping everyone to claim a hefty first-place prize of $93,860.

It took about five hours and 20 minutes for the field to shrink to 63 players and the money. At that point four players were sitting north of the 100,000-chip mark — lechuckpoker (137,610), a$$ou (133,997), OverTheTop43 (118,653), and cmontopdeck (111,134).

Last week’s winner treezer was the among those going out shortly after the cash bubble burst, hitting the rail in 62nd for a min-cash of $2,173.60. Not bad, though a little short of the nearly $100K payday treezer enjoyed last week.

It would be nearly three hours more before the field was further trimmed down to just nine players, with Olya2Ace pushing up over half a million chips and the top of the counts along the way.

The last nine eliminations before the final table were viirusss (18th), a$$ou (17th), and 3daugth3rs (16th) each of whom earned $3,952; N0b0dy (15th), Kevin “KevBoyStar” Stani (14th), and vic1316 (13th) who took $4,940 apiece; and OTT CANADA (12th), lechuckpoker (11th), and 11/20/12 Super Tuesday winner Seth “SFisch4” Fischer (10th) each taking away $5,928 for their finishes.

About eight hours and 10 minutes after the tourney had begun, the final table was underway.

Seat 1: cmontopdeck (Germany) — 233,308
Seat 2: exposabre (Canada) — 395,280
Seat 3: OverTheTop43 (Germany) — 139,609
Seat 4: gigibaston (Romania) — 63,280
Seat 5: Leandro “leopeluca” Csome (Argentina) — 478,060
Seat 6: Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera (Portugal) — 68,887
Seat 7: Olya2Ace (Russia) — 520,859
Seat 8: faber3 (Germany) — 123,168
Seat 9: Damián “pampa27” Salas (Argentina) — 447,549

About 15 minutes would pass before the first final table elimination occurred.

With the blinds 2,800/5,600, cmontopdeck raised 2x to 11,200 from the hijack seat, then gigibaston shoved all in for 52,580 from the small blind. It folded back to cmontopdeck who called, turning over Q♠J♥ while gigibaston had 7♥7♣. The flop came 6♥9♥2♣ and turn the 5♣, meaning gigibaston’s sevens were still best. But the J♠ fell on the river, giving cmontopdeck a pair of jacks and ending gigibaston’s Super Tuesday run in ninth.

Shortly after that hand it appeared cmontopdeck was about to claim another victim and knock Leandro “leopeluca” Csome out in eighth. Csome was all in with Q♦Q♣ against cmontopdeck’s A♣K♥, and when an ace flopped the situation looked dire for leopeluca. But the Q♠ came on the river and Csome survived.

It would take nearly an hour-and-a-half before that eighth-place elimination finally came, during which period Damián “pampa27” Salas pushed out into the chip lead with more than 770,000 while Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera and OverTheTop43 became the short stacks with less than 100,000. But as it happened, neither of those latter two would be the next to go.

With the blinds at 5,000/10,000, it was faber3 open-pushing all in for 125,601 from under the gun and getting a single caller in Olya2Ace from the big blind. faber3 had A♠10♠ and needed to improve versus Olya2Ace’s A♥J♣, but the board rolled out 8♥K♠3♥7♥J♥, and faber3 was gone in eighth.

The final seven played on past the tourney’s 10-hour mark as the blinds increased to 14,000/28,000. A hand then arose in which Damián “pampa27” Salas opened for 28,000 from early position and it folded around to Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera in the big blind who reraised all in for 148,599. Salas called with 8♦8♥ and was racing versus the A♠K♥ of Cabrera. The community cards came 9♣Q♥4♣7♣7♥, pampa27’s eights held, and trujustrus was eliminated in seventh.

Two more eliminations came in short order not long thereafter, the first being Leandro “leopeluca” Csome in sixth. Csome’s final hand began with a 2x raise to 28,000 from middle position, then cmontopdeck reraising to 59,000 from the big blind. leopeluca then four-bet to 91,234 total and cmontopdeck called.

The flop came 3♥Q♦J♦. cmontopdeck checked, Csome bet 52,954, and cmontopdeck called. The turn was the 5♠, and when cmontopdeck checked again, leopeluca pushed all in for 165,644, and cmontopdeck was calling again. Csome showed K♦K♥, but cmontopdeck had A♣A♦, and after the 2♥ river they were down to five.

Soon the blinds were 8,000/16,000 and Olya2Ace was opening with an all-in raise to 224,994 from UTG, and OverTheTop43 called all in from the big blind for 128,960 total with 7♥7♦ to Olya2Ace’s Q♦J♥. The board came 9♦10♥Q♥9♠2♣ to give Olya2Ace the better two pair, and OverTheTop43 was finished in fifth.

Olya2Ace’s good fortune was short-lived, however, as soon Olya2Ace’s stack was swiftly reduced to 87,959, with all of those chips then going in the middle via an opening raise from the button and cmontopdeck called from the big blind. Olya2Ace had the better hand preflop with A♦10♣ versus cmontopdeck’s K♥10♠, but the board came Q♦8♠A♥10♦J♠ — two pair for Olya2Ace but a Broadway straight for cmontopdeck. Just three remained.

They were nearing the 11-hour mark, with Damián “pampa27” Salas the leader with more than 1.29 million, cmontopdeck next with about 723,000, and exposabre third with a little more than 455,000.

Just before they reached the next break, the blinds were 9,000/18,000 when Salas raised to 36,000 from the button and cmontopdeck called from the small blind. That’s when exposabre reraised all in for 382,817 from the big blind, getting a call from pampa27 and a fold from cmontopdeck.

exposabre: 3♠3♣
pampa27: A♦J♠

The 8♥5♦10♥ flop was fine for exposabre’s pocket treys, but the J♥ was not, and after the 7♠ river just two players were left.

Heads-up play began with Salas well in front with 1,932,321 to cmontopdeck’s 537,679, with Salas’s fellow Argentinian and Team PokerStars Pro Jose “Nacho” Barbero offering encouraging “vamoooos” from the virtual rail.

The pair played three small-pot hands, took the 11-hour break, and after three more hands cmontopdeck had slipped down below 360,000. The blinds were up to 10,000/20,000, and on the next hand cmontopdeck limped from the button and pampa27 called.

The flop came 9♦5♥A♣. Salas checked, cmontopdeck bet 20,000, and Salas called. The turn then brought the K♦ and another check from pampa27. This time cmontopdeck fired 48,000, and Salas called once more.

The river was the A♥, pairing the board. pampa27 checked one more time, and when cmontopdeck pushed all in for 268,740, Salas called, turning over 9♠2♦ for nines and aces. It was good enough, as cmontopdeck had but 10♥8♦, and the Super Tuesday had been won.

Congratulations to Damián “pampa27” Salas for topping yet another huge Super Tuesday field to claim a better than $93K payday!
