Amid the bustle of activity around SCOOP it’s worth remembering the winner of another contest this week, the European Poker Tour Player of the Year.

While the award itself won’t be presented until Barcelona, there was still some doubt as to who would be collecting the trophy, even in the last throes of the EPT Grand Final.

Urbanovich, as we highlighted in our look back on the season last week, was the big story of EPT Malta, and arguably the whole season. The teenager won four events there, including the €25K High Roller and €5k no limit hold’em. It was a new EPT record, with his combined earnings from Malta adding up to more than €720,000.

But he had work to do to lock up the Player of the Year award. As he put it, “Winning EPT Player of the Year means more to me than winning money.”

But the likes of Joao Vieira, Davidi Kitai and Vladimir Troyanovskiy were, thanks to some great results during the season, still within reach.

But Urbanovich got to work immediately finishing second to Erik Seidel in the Super High Roller, which in effect this sealed it. The Pole won not only the Platinum category but also the Gold, and will look around at a room full of people standing in awe when he collects his award at the start of Season 12.

Here’s how the three categories finished.
