Not for the first time on the European Poker Tour this season, the players in the €10,000 High Roller event are bedding in for a late night while their Main Event equivalents are free to gambol off into a land of gelato (and pre-final table anxieties).

It’s fair to say these guys can look after themselves, however, as there are some proper heavyweights among them.

Although the Russian boxing promoter Alexander Kopylkov is no longer leading the way, it’s lucky he’s still around (he’s in the top five) as steward for some exceptionally tasty personal bouts.

For example…

In the red corner: Griffin Benger (EPT9 Berlin High Roller champion) v Jason Lavallee (EPT10 London High Roller champion). In the blue corner: Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (PCA4 champion) v Dimitar Danchev (PCA9 champion). In the other blue corner: Ole Schemion (leading EPT Player of the Year race) v Thomas Muhlocker (hot on his heels). And dancing around the ring in no particular order: David Vamplew, Dominik Nitsche, Alex Bilokur, Artem Litvinov, Marc-Andre Ladouceur, among others.

The championship purse has been negotiated at €265,000 for the winner after the tournament attracted 105 entries. Some of them were re-entries, of course, including one from Vanessa Selbst, who showed up this morning with her second bullet and had fired it into her own foot within ten minutes.

She summed it up herself: “No one should let me play 22bb poker on no sleep,” she tweeted. “Made terrible jam pre with KQ and busted within 10 min.” Worse: her POY rivals Schemion and Muhlocker remain in the hunt.

Our live reporting team will have all the details of all the action on the EPT Sanremo High Roller page. You can access chip counts and payouts (as and when they happen) via the tab in the panel at the top of the page.

In the time it’s taken me to write all this, ElkY was pushed on to the ropes and then ejected from the ring. Nitsche too. It’s tough out there.

They play down to a final table (or thereabouts) tonight, and will finish it off tomorrow.

*Captions in today’s High Roller wrap are works of fiction. They do not describe the actual actions being depicted in the photos, which are somewhat more mundane.
