12:25am: Deal has been agreed and Will Kassouf will take the title and the trophy

After lengthy negotiations a deal has been agreed and it’s a surprising one.

Patrick Serda has taken some extra equity and for that has handed the title and trophy to Will Kassouf rounding off an amazing year for him. Here’s what each player will take home:

Kassouf – €532,500, the title and the trophy.
Serda – €719,000 and second place.

11:50pm: Hansen can’t stay ahead, goes in third for €351,000

The tournament has finally made heads up after the elimination of young Danish player Tue Hansen.

Patrick Serda moved all-in from the button and Hansen called all-in from the small blind for 2.915 million. Will Kassouf open-folded deuces in the big blind.

The board ran Q♣ 6♦ 5♥ 10♦ 3♠ to pair Serda’s queen.

That was almost the end of the level and the players paused it to look at the numbers again, but here’s how they stand:

On the fourth hand after deal negotiations ended William Kassouf got a much needed double up. Tue Ullerup Hansen moved all-in from the button, Kassouf called all-in for 1,855,000 and Patrick Serda folded.

Kassouf’s hand held on a Q♣ 5♦ 3♥ 3♦ 9♣ board. After that hand Kassouf is up to 3,985,000 and Hansen is down to 2,875,000. –NW

11:45pm: Official warning for Kassouf

After two warnings, Will Kassouf has been given an official warning for verbally trying to influence play in multi-way pots. He’ll receive a one-orbit penalty for another infringement.

It came after he limped in from the button and then said, “Setting the trap,” with two players to act behind him. — MC

11:30pm: Deuces can’t help Petleshkov, goes in fourth for €283,850

It was just a case of bad timing for Viliyan Petleshkov as he went in fourth place.

He moved all-in for 3.245 million from under the gun and was isolated by chip leader Patrick Serda who shoved behind.

The board ran 9♦ 6♣ J♥ 4♥ Q♥ . Petleshkov shook everyone’s hand and made his way off to get paid.

Serda moved up to 13.8 million and after a couple more hands where he shoved the clock was paused so they can look at the numbers. Serda had already said he’ll only take first place money, so it’s up to Will Kassouf and Tue Hansen to see if they want to do a deal.

11:20pm: Clock called on Kassouf yet again

The clock being called on Willam Kassouf is becoming a recurring theme of this final table. What’s more the players are calling it more quickly than they were at the start of the final table.

The latest incident occurred when Tue Ullerup Hansen opened to 400,000 from the button and Kassouf called on the button. On the 10♣ 7♠ 7♣ flop Hansen c-bet 235,000 and Kassouf called. The 4♠ turn was checked through and the Q♥ fell on the river and when he was checked to Hansen bet 1,100,000.

There was plenty of chat from Kassouf but while he could talk the talk he couldn’t walk the walk. The clock was called and he, as expected, folded his hand before the countdown reached zero.

After that had Hansen climbs to 4,800,000 and Kassouf drops to 2,900,000. –NW

11:11pm: Serda collects more
Level 30 – Blinds 80,000/160,000 (20,000 ante)

Patrick Serda made it 425,000 from the small blind when it folded to him, and Tue Hansen defended the big. They saw a 4♦ A♠ 3♠ flop and Serda continued for 275,000 which was called.

The turn was the 7♣ which both checked to the Q♣ river. Serda then picked up again with a 550,000 bet, and that got a fold.

Serda is up to 9.7 million now, and Hansen has 3.95 million. –JS

11pm: Clock called on Kassouf, again

For not the first time today, the clock was called on Will Kassouf in a hand.

He was in the big blind and defended to a 325,000 button raise from Tue Hansen. The flop fell 4♦ 5♦ 5♣ and Kassouf check-called 225,000 after (for him) not much tanking. The real tanking (and talking) came on the 2♣ turn when he checked to face a 750,000 bet. After a few minutes, Hansen had enough and called the call. Despite having cut out the calling chips, Kassouf folded to drop to 3.8 million. Hansen leap-frogged him and moved up to 4.2 million. –MC

10:45pm: Two hands, two shoves

It’s all getting a bit ‘shovey’ at the moment with the all-in triangle’s being kept very busy. First Viliyan Petleshkov shoved from the small blind for 2,275,000. It was William Kassouf with the decision and he seemed to have a tough one – although doesn’t he always?

“To flip or not to flip? That is the question,” he said. “I’m 80% sure I’m ahead. I’ve got a small pair,” he continued. After some good old tank time he folded 3♦ 3♣ face-up. Pot to Petleshkov.

On the next hand Tue Ullerup Hansen made it 350,000 to go from under the gun and Kassouf flat called from the small blind. Patrick Serda made both of them play for all of it though as he moved all-in. It was an effective shove of a little over 4,300,000 and it was one that got through. Kassouf showed A♠ 10♥ as he folded and Serda flashed ace-queen as he took the pot.

After that pot Serda has around 9,500,000, which is almost half the chips in play. –NW

10:38pm: Leckey can’t get lucky, goes in fifth (€224,600)

And then there were four. The jovial Paul Leckey fell to Patrick Serda after he got his chips dominated.

Serda opened to 350,000 off the button and called after Leckey three-bet all-in for a little under 1.4 million.

The board ran 6♦ 8♦ 10♠ 10♥ 7♠ to send Leckey on his way. Serda moved up to a chip-leading 7.4 million. -MC

10:25pm: Serda takes from Kassouf

Patrick Serda opened to 350,000 under the gun and got one caller in Will Kassouf, who was in the big blind. They saw a J♠ 7♣ 7♠ flop and both checked.

The turn came the 8♦ and now Kassouf led out for 450,000, which Serda called quickly. The 9♠ river then completed the board, and Kassouf fired again for 575,000. Serda snap-called with the A♦ 9♦ , but his rivered pair of nines was no good against Serda’s K♠ 10♦ for a straight.

Serda increases to 6.4 million, while Kassouf dips to 5.36 million. –JS

10:15pm: Hansen picks off Kassouf’s bluff

A good read from Tue Ullerup Hansen means he’s closing in on Will Kassouf at the top of the chip counts. Hansen opened to 240,000 from the button and Kassouf smooth called from the big blind. On the 10♦ 10♥ K♦ flop Hansen continued for 135,000 and Kassouf called saying. “You can keep bluffing me if you like,” as he did so.

The 6♦ turn checked through and the 2♠ fell on the river. Kassouf led for 450,000 and Hansen tank-called. Kassouf rolled over Q♥ J♥ for the busted straight draw, while Hansen showed A♣ J♦ for a great call with ace high. He’s up to 5,300,000 while Kassouf is down to 6,415,000. –NW

10:10pm: Wyraz gets it in bad, goes home with €172,910

Grzegorz Wyraz rode the start of day chip lead to a sixth place finish. He was under the gun and moved all-in for 650,000 and was called by Patrick Serda on the button.

The board ran 10♣ 7♦ K♣ 10♠ 4♥ to make Serda a pair he didn’t need. He moved up to 4.65 million. –MC

9:50pm: Wyraz gets it in good

Grzegorz Wyraz was down to just 385,000 by the time he took a stand. He shoved all-in from the button and Viliyan Petleshkov re-raised to 700,000 out of the small blind. Will Kassouf was in the big blind and although he took his time he never looked like calling and he left them to it.

The 2♦ 6♣ K♠ 10♥ 3♠ board kept Wyraz in front and he survived. –NW

9:38pm: Matas Cimbolas falls in 7th (€128,700)

There are just six left now, and it’s one of the more known players who has left us.

Matas Cimbolas moved all-in with the K♣ 10♣ from the hijack and it folded to Viliyan Petleshkov in the big blind. He called with the dominating K♥ J♥ , and despite Will Kassouf’s calls there were no tens “about” on the A♣ 6♥ 8♠ K♦ 5♥ board.

Petleshkov is up to 3.25 million now. –JS

9:15pm: Kassouf moves into the lead

Will Kassouf has moved into the lead after he emptied the clip on Patrick Serda.

He opened to 250,000 from the button and Serda was the only caller from the small blind. The flop fanned 4♣ K♣ 2♥ and Serda check-called 350,000. He called another 720,000 on the Q♠ turn before the river came as the 3♥ . Serda checked again and Kassouf went into a three-minute monologue, only interrupted when Matas Cimbolas called the clock on him.

Kassouf bet 1.1 million Serda made a quick fold to drop to 4,010,000. The Brit moved up to 6.8 million. –MC

9:10pm: Jens Lakemeier calls it off incorrectly top bust in 8th (€93,170)
Level 28 – Blinds 50,000/100,000 (10,000 ante)

We’re now down to seven. Patrick Serda opened under the gun, and when it got to Jens Lakemeier in the big blind he decided to call and see a flop.

It came the 6♦ A♣ 4♦ and both checked to see the 10♣ turn, which was also checked through.

The 9♠ completed the board and this time when Lakemeier checked, Serda put him all-in for 560,000. Lakemeier thought for so long that eventually the clock was called, and as it ticked down to one Lakemeier called off his stack with less than a second to spare.

Serda then showed the A♦ 10♦ for top two pair, and Lakemeier mucked and said his goodbyes. Serda is up to 5.4 million now. –JS

9pm: Even more for Kassouf
Level 28 – Blinds 50,000/100,000 (10,000 ante)

Patrick Serda made it 200,000 under the gun plus one and it folded to Will Kassouf, who called from the big blind. The flop came A♦ 3♦ 3♥ and Kassouf checked.

“We can’t both have an ace here, can we?” asked Kassouf. “Cooler.”

Serda made it 175,000 and Kassouf went in the tank for a while, saying his usual things. Eventually Matas Cimbolas called the clock on Kassouf, and everyone agreed he’d had enough time.

“OK, I’m gonna see where I’m at,” he said, before raising it to 430,000. Serda called.

The turn was the 2♥ .

“You haven’t got pocket deuces ‘ave ya?” asked Kassouf. “That would be sick. That and four five.”

After a bit more thinking time, he slid out around 800,000 in black 100K chips. Serda snap-folded and dropped to 4.2 million, while Kassouf is up to 5.2 million. –JS

8:55pm: Leckey shoves the river
Level 28 – Blinds 50,000/100,000 (10,000 ante)

Each win or loss can be crucial at this stage and Paul Leckey had slipped to below 15 big blinds by the time he found himself in the big blind. He found himself facing an under-the-gun raise of 200,000 from Tue Ullerup Hansen and elected to put in the extra 100,000 required.

The 6♣ K♥ 9♠ flop was checked through and the 9♦ fell on the turn. Leckey led for 250,000 and Hansen called. The 8♥ fell on fifth street and Leckey moved all-in for 555,000. There was no hollywooding or tanking from Hansen and he quietly mucked his cards. He’s up 1,535,000 after that hand. –NW

8:50pm: Official final table set after Soika goes in 9th (€75,400)

“William!” said Matas Cimbolas to William Kassouf after he had raised to 250,000 and then started chattering in Ihar Soika’s ear. “Multi!” he continued referring to the fact that there were still three people to act after Soika.

Those three all folded after Soika three-bet all-in for 940,000, then Kassouf went into full-on chat mode. Soika has been the quietest at the table all day and was in no mood to open up, but that didn’t stop his opponent trying. After a few minutes of the usual lines, Kassouf slid in the call.

The 10♠ 7♠ 9♠ was a great one for Soika, but not so much the Q♣ and the 2♥ river failed to come to his rescue. Kassouf said he was sorry and his stack grew to 4.2 million. –MC

Patrick Serda opened under the gun to 200,000 and it folded around to Will Kassouf on the button. He flat called, and the two went heads up to a flop.

The dealer spread the 10♣ 9♣ 5♥ . “Not a bad flop for my hand, to be honest,” Kassouf said.

Both checked and the turn was the J♥ . Serda then put out a delayed c-bet of 300,00 and Kassouf let it go. We guess it can’t have been that good after all.

Kassouf is on 3 million, and Serda is up to 5.05 million. –JS

8:20pm: Nothing but the coconuts for Kassouf

Whatever you think about Will Kassouf, he doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t matter who you are, you’ll get a dose of his speech play when he’s got a strong hand. This time it was Jens Lakemeier who was on the end of his verbal deluge.

The Brit opened to 210,000 from a stack of 1,560,000 and Lakemeier three-bet to 450,000. It passed back to Kassouf and the patter began. It was the usual material, so we’ll skip to the end. “If you’ve got it, you’ve got it,” he said and pushed all-in. Lakemeier snap called.

The 2♦ J♥ A♠ 2♣ J♠ board meant Kassouf made a full house and doubled to 3,330,000 while Lakemeier is down to 1,050,000. –NW

Patrick Serda won a three-way pot in position without having to show, whether he had it or not, we’ll never know.

Tue Ullerup opened to 160,000 from under the gun and was called by Serda on the button and Paul Leckey in the big blind. The flop spread 10♦ 5♦ 9♣ and the action checked to Serdo who bet 200,000. Only Leckey called but he folded as well when he checked to face a 375,000 bet on the 5♠ turn.

Leckey dropped to 1.3 million and Serda rose to 4.6million, good for the chip lead. –MC

8:09pm: Kings for Kassouf, doubles up
Level 27 – Blinds 40,000/80,000 (10,000 ante)

Grzegorz Wyraz opened to 160,000 in the cutoff and the action was on Will Kassouf. He counted out his stack (720,000) and decided to shove all-in from the small blind. Back to Wyraz.

“I’ve got pocket kings,” claimed Kassouf. “You fold I show, I’m not lying.”

It carried on like that for around 20 seconds before Wyraz made the call with A♦ J♥ . “Look, there ya go,” said Kassouf, turning over the K♠ K♥ . “See? I wasn’t lying!”

The flop fell Q♣ J♠ 7♦ , pairing Wyraz but keeping the Brit in the lead.

“Thank you. Any bricks about?” asked Kassouf.

The board was completed by the 3♠ and 9♠ and Kassouf doubled to 1.61 million, while Wyraz dropped to 1.175 million.

“Didn’t I say I had kings five times?” Kassouf said to Matas Cimbolas. “I’m a lawyer! I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!” –JS

8:04pm: One for Lakemeier

Patrick Serda was under the gun and opened it up to 175,000. It folded right around to Jens Lakemeier in the big blind and he defended to see a 5♥ 4♦ 7♣ flop. Serda continued for 150,000 when it checked to him, and Lakemeier called.

The turn was the J♦ and both checked it to the 10♦ river. Lakemeier then led out for 350,000 and got a fold.

Lakemeier has 2.5 million now, while Serda has 3.67 million. –JS

8:02pm: Lucky Leckey

“It’s the standing up on the turn that does it,” joked Will Kassouf after Paul Leckey had hit the river to stay in this tournament.

The Irishman shoved for 665,000 from under the gun+1 and when it reached Ihar Soika, who was on the button, he re-raised all-in. Everyone else folded and Leckey showed A♠ 10♦ . He was behind to Soika’s K♦ K♥ and it stayed that way on the 2♥ 2♣ 4♥ flop. Leckey had seen enough by the 7♠ turn to be preparing his exit, but the A♣ river saved him.

He doubles to 1,540,000 while Soika drops to 1,175,000. –NW

7:58pm: Hansen learns from getting stung

Tue Hansen limped in from the small blind and allowed Grzegorz Wyrez to move all-in for around 1.5 million. “That hurts!” said the Dane as he folded.

The chip leader didn’t make that mistake the next two hands. He raised from the button and took the blinds and antes. It was up to 160,000, the same amount he raised into Will Kassouf’s big blind the next hand.

He had to deal with a barrage of chattering coming from the Brit but stayed silent. Kassouf called and took a couple of minutes to fold (again talking) after he checked to face a 100,000 bet. Hansen showed him an ace and Kassouf said he folded ace-seven. –MC

7:45pm: It’s taking ages

The players have just been discussing how old they are.

“I’m 24,” said Matas Cimbolas. “I’m probably the youngest here.”

“You’re 24?” asked Kassouf. “You’re ten years younger than me. Did you know it’s my 35th birthday tomorrow?”

Nobody knew.

“Actually, you’re probably younger,” said Kassouf to Jens Lakemeier. “How old? 22?”

Lakemeier nodded.

“But you’ve been playing online for ten years!” joked Patrick Serda.

“Sorry to ruin it, but I’m 22 too,” chimed in Tue Hansen. –JS

In one of the first hands back, Jens Lakemeier opened to 160,000 only for Grzegorz Wyraz to shove. The action was on Will Kassouf and he said he would have shoved had Wyraz not.

Kassouf and Lakemeier both ended up folding, and Kassouf showed the A♠ J♦ . Lakemeier showed his A♦ 8♠ , and the Wyraz showed his winning hand: the K♣ Q♦ . –JS

The 4♠ turn checked through and the 2♠ fell on the river. Soika check-callled a bet of 230,000 but mucked when Lakemeier opened A♠ 5♦ . After that hand Lakemeier is up to 2,600,000, while Soika drops to 2,900,000. -NW

Ihar Soika moved closer to the chip leader after taking a pot off Viliyan Petleshkov, who dropped to around 1.8 million.

The former opened to 140,000 from under the gun and Petleshkov defended his big blind. Both players checked the Q♦ 5♣ K♠ flop before Petleshkov led for 115,000 on the J♠ turn. Soika called and both checked the 2♥ river. Petleshkov opened 7♠ 6♠ for a busted flush draw and lost out to Soika’s 10♣ J♠ . –MC

No major action at the final table as of yet, but what action there has been involved Jens Lakemeier. He raised three pots in a row and on the third Patrick Serda three-bet him to 350,000 in total. Call from Lakemeier.

The two players checked it all the way down on a 6♣ 8♦ 7♦ K♥ 10♠ board and Serda’s A♥ 10♦ proved the winner against Lakemeier’s A♣ 8♣ . –NW

It’s fair to say that Jussi Nevanlinna has not run well in all-in hands today. He’d already lost two huge pre-flop all-in pots with the best hand and a third means it’s ‘good game’ for the Finnish player.

Ihar Soika jammed for an effective 760,000 from the small blind and Nevanlinna called it off. Soika had 7♣ 6♣ to Nevanlinna’s K♠ 9♠ . The 4♥ 4♠ 10♦ flop changed nothing, the 3♦ turn gave Soika a gutshot straight draw to go with his pair outs and the 6♦ paired Soika’s hand and he eliminated Nevanlinna.

5:30pm: Kassouf doubles after calling in a ten

We’ve seen this before. Will Kassouf calling in the card he needs to win. The effervescent Brit, when the action was on him on the button, said, “This is the one! Merry Christmas and thanks Paul,” before he moved all-in for 445,000.

Paul Leckey was in the big blind, nodded at Kassouf, and made the call.

“Typical!” moaned Kassouf when he saw Leckey open Q♦ Q♣ . He opened K♠ J♣ and continued, “Any kings about?”

The flop fell Q♥ A♥ 3♦ to make Leckey a set. Kassouf then changed to calling for a ten and he got his wish as the board ran out 10♠ 2♠ . Leckey dropped to 1.4 million. –MC

5:20pm: Soika soars

Although we’re on the final table bubble, there’s still plenty of action to go round. Like this pot between Patrick Serda and Ihar Soika. The Canadian raised to 110,000 from the button and Soika defended from the big blind.

The 2♥ J♣ 10♣ flop was checked through and the 10♠ landed on the turn. Soika led for 145,000 and Serda smooth called. On the 6♣ river Soika fired out a bet of 380,000 and Serda began to talk through the hand out loud.

“I have a great hand to call with. I’ve got a club and I don’t block any of your bluffs,” Said Serda. He dwelled and debated for a couple of minutes before eventually calling. Soika showed J♦ 10♦ for a full house and Serda mucked.

Jussi Nevanlinna is going to have nightmares about tens tonight. He lost one big pot with A♣ K♠ against A♠ 10♦ earlier and another ten on a flop just cost him another huge pot.

This time it was Paul Leckey who got there against him. The Irishman opened to 115,000, Nevanlinna then moved all-in from the small blind and Leckey gave it some thought before calling all-in for 910,000 in total.

The Finn had the dominating hand but the A♠ 5♥ 10♥ flop mean Leckey took the lead. The 2♠ turn and 9♠ river didn’t help Nevanlinna and he said: “I never want to see another ten,” as he shipped his chips over to Leckey.

The last remaining Austrian in the field has just been eliminated. Josip Simunic opened to 110,000 and that got a flat call from Will Kassouf on the button. Patrick Serda then three-bet jammed all-in with the bigger stack and Simunic slammed down a call for his last 970,000, pretty loudly actually.

“Is that a call?” asked Kassouf, jokingly. “It looks like it!” replied Simunic.

Kassouf folded and the cards were flipped.

Tue Ullerup Hansen is up to 2,800,000 after eliminating Samy Ouellani. The Dane opened to 100,000 from early position and Ouellani called. On the J♠ 2♦ 8♣ flop Hansen c-bet 105,000, Ouellani moved all-in for 525,000 and Hansen swiftly called. Ouellani showed 9♠ 8♠ but he was in big trouble against Hansen’s pocket queens.

4:25pm: Cimbolas doubles through Lakemeier

Jens Lakemeier saw no action in front of him, and in the cutoff he peeked down at the A♠ J♥ . He raised it up to 100,000, only for Matas Cimbolas to jam on the button for 905,000. Back to Lakemeier, he called, and Cimbolas showed the 7♦ 7♠ . It was a race.

The 6♦ 2♣ 4♦ stayed low to keep the Lithuanian in front, and the 8♣ turn and K♦ river secured him the double up to 1.9 million, while Lakemeier is down to 1.755 million. –JS

On the final hand of the level Will Kassouf got a big boost to his stack. He was one of three players who saw a 6♦ 5♥ 7♦ flop. Kassouf (big blind) checked as did Patrick Serda (early position) and Ihar Soika (hijack).

On the 3♣ turn Kassouf led for 150,000, Serda raised to 375,000 and Soika quickly folded. Then the talking began. Kassouf had 575,000 in total and said. “There’s only one hand that’s beating me. Why would you raise this board?”

He then said that he didn’t think Serda could fold if he raised all-in. He’d been thinking for a few minutes at this point and the clock was finally called. “If you’ve got it you’ve got it,” said Kassouf and he moved all-in. Serda snap called and showed 3♠ 3♥ while Kassouf had A♦ 4♣ for a straight. The 8♥ river didn’t pair the board and Kassouf doubled.

He’s up to 1,475,000, while Serda drops to 2,595,000. –NW

Ihar Soika has moved up to about 1.4 million after he three-bet preflop and open-jammed post flop.

Viliyan Petleshkov opened to 85,000 from the cutoff and called after Soika three-bet to 240,000 from the small blind. The flop fell 9♦ 8♥ J♦ and Soika jammed for 865,000. Petleshkov tank-folded to drop to 2.1 million. –MC

Make that two of the bigger names left in the field now eliminated.

After Jens Lakemeier opened utg+1 to 90,000, it folded to Adrian Mateos in the big blind and he defended. The flop came down 4♠ 4♦ 3♦ , and Mateos checked it, letting Lakemeier make a c-bet of 70,000.

Mateos then check-raised all-in, and got a quick call from Lakemeier with the A♦ K♦ . Mateos had the best hand with the J♣ 3♣ , but the A♣ turn gave Lakemeier the lead, and the 7♣ river kept him there.

Mateos is off to get paid, while Lakemeier has 2.65 million now. –JS

It’s been some level for Jens Lakemeier as he just won another huge pot. He opened to 90,000 from the cutoff, Matas Cimbolas called from the button and Martin Finger joined the party from the big blind.

The three players watched on as a 10♠ J♣ 4♥ flop hit the felt, both Germans checked and Cimbolas bet 125,000. Finger responded by check-raising all-in for 450,000 and action was now back on Lakemeier. He thought for a decent amount of time, before announcing that he too was all-in.

Now it was the turn of Cimbolas to spend some time in the tank. He thought for a minute or so before folding what he said was queen-jack. Finger showed K♣ 10♦ but he was well behind Lakemeier’s A♣ A♠ . The 9♥ turn and 5♣ river kept Lakemeier in the lead and he’s up to 1,950,000. –NW

Jussi Nevanlinna didn’t hang on to those extra chips too long. He dropped down to 1,060,00 after he doubled Viliyan Petleshkov, and was unlucky to do so.

The Finn opened to 90,000 from the cutoff and called after Petleshkov moved all-in for 1,180,000 from the small blind.

It was a proper roller-coaster end of a tournament for Glib Kovtunov. He was up, down, back up again and then busted to Patrick Serda who jumped into the lead with 3.255 million.

Serda opened to 90k, bet 100k on the flop, 275k on the turn and then jammed on the river. The final board read 7♥ A♥ Q♥ 3♣ 9♠ and Kovtunov, who was at on the button called all the way, and all-in for 900,000 on the river. Serda opened 7♣ 7♠ for a set to beat Kovtunov’s A♠ J♠ for to pair. –MC

3:23pm: Big pot goes Nevanlinna’s way

Viliyan Petleshkov opened to 80,000 under the gun and that go no action until Jussi Nevanlinna defended his big blind. The flop fell 4♠ 3♠ J♥ and both checked.

The turn came the 8♣ and Nevanlinna opted to lead for 90,000 which got a call, but then he slowed down again and checked the Q♠ river. Petleshkov then counted out a big bet, sliding 415,00 over the line.

Something didn’t add up for Nevanlinna, and it didn’t take him too long to make the call, showing the Q♥ 4♥ for two pair. Petleshkov had the A♣ K♦ for ace high and dipped to 1.25 million, while Nevanlinna is up to 2.25 million. –JS

These two keep passing their chips back and forth! After Viliyan Petleshkov opened to 80,000, it golded to Gliuv Kovtunov in the big blind and he jammed for 680,000. Petleshkov called with the 5♣ 5♠ , but that trailed Kovtunov’s 9♣ 9♥ .

The board ran A♥ 4♠ 4♥ 6♣ Q♦ and the nines held, bringing Kovtunov up to around 1.4 million and Petleshkov down to 1.82 million. –JS

3:10pm: Two doubles for Lakemeier

What’s better than one double? Two doubles that’s what! Jens Lakemeier doubled up twice in consecutive hands and now has 1,600,000. His first double came when he shoved for 340,000 on the button with A♠ 3♣ . Grzegorz Wyraz called with J♠ 9♠ and flopped best on 3♠ 7♦ J♦ .

The 5♥ turn was a blank, but the A♣ river kept Lakemeier’s tournament hopes alive and dropped Wyraz to 2,350,000.

Onto the next hand, in which Adrian Mateos opened to 90,000, Lakemeier shoved for 735,000 and Mateos called. The Spaniard held 9♦ 9♠ but was behind to the German’s J♦ J♠ . The board ran 6♣ 2♦ 2♥ K♠ K♣ and Lakemeier is now up to 1,550,000 while Mateos drops to 400,000. –NW

Josip Simunic opened to 70,000 from middle position before Glib Kovtunov three-bet to 200,000 from the next seat. Then in came Viliyan Petleshkov with an all-in for 995,000 from the small blind. Simunic busted but Kovtunov made the call.

It folded to Jussi Nevanlinna in the small blind, and Will Kassouf – the guy in the big – started talking.

“Look, I’ve got ace king,” he said. “It’s all-in or fold for me anyway. But this time I’ve got ace king.”

Nevanlinna then put him all-in for 385,000.

“Let me just check I’ve still got it,” said Kassouf, peeking at his cards. “Yep, I’ve got it. There it is.”

He called and showed the A♣ K♠ , which was way ahead of Nevanlinna’s 3♠ 5♥ . The board ran out 10♠ 7♣ 6♦ 6♥ J♦ and Kassouf doubled up to 825,000, while Nevanlinna is on around 1.5 million. –JS

We’re now down to 16 as we’ve had one more elimination. That means we’re now redrawing for the final two tables.

Viacheslav Goryachev is the man to fall. He shoved for 245,000 on the button with the Q♥ 10♣ and was called by Patrick Serda in the big blind with the K♥ J♦ . The K♦ 4♣ 9♣ flop meant Goryachev needed a jack for a straight, while the 3♣ turn also gave him a flush draw. But the A♠ on the river changed nothing. Goryachev is out, while Serda is up to around 2 million.

2:33pm: Weis went in 18th after trying to tank to 17th (€39,090)

A weird situation occurred at table 3 where a player, Oliver Weis, raised almost all-in and then tanked post flop hoping to ladder up to 17th. It didn’t work out for him and he busted in 18th.

Jussi Nevanlinna opened to 65,000 from under the gun and then called after Weis three-bet to 500,000, leaving just 40,000 back. Nevanlinna thought he was calling an all-in and went to open his hand. Adrian Mateos stopped him just in time though, and he bet the 40,000 anyway, just in the dark.

The flop came 3♠ 10♠ 8♠ and Weis tanked hoping someone would bust from another table. The clock was called on him and let it almost run down before he called all-in with 2♠ 2♣ .

“Unlucky for you,” said Nevanlinna as he opened A♠ Q♠ for a flush. The board ran out 9♦ 3♦ and the Finn rose to 1.9 million. –MC

2:25pm: Serda springs a check-raise

A pot between Patrick Serda and Glib Kovtunov seemed to be fizzling out. They’d reached the river of a 3♣ 8♥ 7♦ 3♥ A♥ with about 10 big blinds in the middle. Serda checked to Kovtunov and the Ukrainian bet 150,000. Back on Serda he slid out a check-raise totaling 450,000.

Action on the other two tables had stopped by this point as table three was down to five players and they were due to have Oliver Weis (who’s at the Serda/Kovtunov table) move to their table after this hand had finished.

So a crowd gathered round as Kovtunov tried to come to a decision. Eventually the clock was called, but before it reached zero he folded A♠ K♦ face up. Serda showed just the 9♣ as he took the pot. –NW

The turn was the Q♦ and both checked, befofe the 8♦ river completed the board. Both checked again and Soika’s A♦ 9♣ chopped it with Simunic’s A♣ 6♠ .

One of Will Kassouf’s many, many phrases is ‘gambling with the nuts’ and that’s what he just did against Grzegorz Wyraz. The Englishman opened to 55,000 from the cutoff and instantly called after Wyraz moved all-in from the small blind.

Kassouf showed A♥ A♦ , whereas Wyraz held Q♠ Q♦ . “Hold one time please,” pleaded Kassouf. He got his wish as the board ran 7♣ K♣ 10♥ 10♠ 10♦ . After that hand Kassouf is up to 800,000 while Wyraz still has the chip lead with 2,600,000. –NW

1:30pm Cimbolas takes big pot from Lakemeier

Picking up the action on an 8♦ 6♠ 4♦ 2♥ board, and with a hefty pot in the centre already, Jens Lakemeier checked to Matas Cimbolas and the Lithuanian made a bet of 265,000. Lakemeier called and you got the sense some big betting would take place on fifth street.

The K♠ river hit the board, and Lakemeier checked once more. Cimbolas waited a while but eventually put Lakemeier all-in, for around 650,000. The German went into the tank for quite a while and the clock was eventually called. With ten seconds to go he released his hand into the muck, and Cimbolas increased to 1.7 million.

“You bluff?” asked Martin Finger.

“What do you think?” Cimbolas replied.

“No, I don’t think you bluff,” said Finger.

1:25pm: Hoefer eliminated by Mateos

We’ve seen Adrian Mateos move all-in from the small blind on at least one occasion already. That time he got his shove through uncontested, but there was a different outcome when he tried it for a second time.

His shove was for an effective 440,000 and it was Paul Hoefer who had the big decision to make. He weighed it up for about 30 seconds and then called. Mateos rolled over 9♠ 6♠ and Hoefer showed K♣ 10♣ .

However the German couldn’t hold as a 6♦ Q♥ 7♣ Q♦ A♣ board meant Mateos flopped best. He’s now up to 1,730,000. –NW

Well it is Christmas time after all. Tue Ullerup Hansen managed to get Jussi Nevanlinna – a Finn – off top pair and show it.

Nevanlinna opened from the cutoff and Hansen defended his big blind. A flop spread K♠ 5♥ 7♦ and Nevanlinna continued for 42,000 before he was check-raised to 110,000. Nevanlinna called and then tanked for several minutes when faced with a 285,000 bet on the 6♥ turn before he open-folded K♦ Q♥ .

Nevanlinna dropped to 1.25 million and Hansen rose to 1.65 million. –MC

1:15pm: Tens trounce Thompson
Level 22 – Blinds 12,000/24,000 (4,000 ante)

We’re down to 20 players and it’s Steven Thompson who’s been eliminated. In his exit hand Grzegorz Wyraz opened to 52,000 from the button, Thompson shoved, for what looked like 330,000, from the small blind only for Mesbah Guerfi to re-raise all-in from the big blind.

The Frenchman had about 600,000 and it was too rich for Wyraz and the Pole folded. Thompson turned over A♦ K♦ and Guerfi showed 10♥ 10♣ . The 3♦ 2♣ 5♥ flop gave Thompson some additional outs but he missed all of them on the 2♦ 7♠ turn and river. He wished his opponents good luck as he left. –NW

Adrian Mateos opened to 50,000 in the lojack and it folded to Vlado Banicevic in the big, who made the call to see the J♣ 3♦ 7♣ flop. Banicevic checked and Mateos made a 50,000 c-bet, which was also called.

The turn was the 4♠ and both checked to the 10♠ river. Banicevic counted his chips (around 450,000) but eventually checked, and Mateos thought for a minute before checking behind.

“King high,” said Banicevic, and when Mateos didn’t respond by turning over better cards he showed his K♣ Q♠ for the win. Mateos mucked, claiming after that he also had king high.

“King eight? King nine?” asked Banicevic, and Mateos just laughed. Banicevic is on 690,000, Mateos 1 million. –JS

1pm: Papazian first to go

Alexandru Papazian couldn’t turn his fortunes around and became the first person to hit the rail on Day 3. Viacheslav Goryachev moved all-in for 227,000 from UTG+1 and Papazian called all-in for 155,000 from the cutoff. All others folded.

“Yeah, and my name was last in the article,” he said, referring to our wrap headline last night (‘Wyraz leads €10K High Roller into final day; Kassouf, Mateos, Finger, Cimbolas still in’). “It went Kassouf, Mateos, Finger, me. You were first!”

“Yep,” said Kassouf. “ROFLers gonna ROFL!”

“We’ll see where you are next year,” said Cimbolas, in a jokey manner.

Another double up!

Alexandru Papazian raised to 64,000 from the button and Patrick Serda then re-raised all-in from the small blind. That got rid of Martin Finger but Papazian wanted a count. It was 622,000 in total and he pushed some chips forward to indicate that he’d called.

Matas Cimbolas has just won his first pot today, after showing up with just a few seconds to spare before play kicked off.

Mesbah Guerfi opened to 50,000 under the gun and it folded to Cimbolas on the button, who flat called. Steven Thompson called from the big blind too, and the three saw a Q♦ Q♣ 6♥ flop. It checked to the raiser and Guerfi continued for 102,000, which only Cimbolas called.

The turn was the 6♠ and both checked it to the 8♠ river. Neither put more chips in, and when the hands were shown Cimbolas’ 7♥ 7♣ was best against Guerfi’s A♣ K♦ .

“Yes! Seven high like a boss!” said Cimbolas, as he increased to 1.35 million. Guerfi has 600,000. –JS

On the first hand of play there was a double up. Paul Leckey shoved for 310,000 from middle position and Ihar Soika re-raised all-in from the button. The blinds folded and the cards were turned over.

Leckey showed 4♥ 4♣ and it was a race against Soika’s A♦ Q♠ . The K♥ 8♣ 2♣ flop kept Leckey in the lead but the A♠ turn put Soika in front. Leckey pushed his chair back in readiness to leave but the 4♦ river meant he had to sit down again.

“Never stand up,” said Matas Chimbolas.
“Always stand up,” replied Leckey.

Well it worked for him! Leckey doubles to 680,000 while Soika slips to 688,000. –NW

Before play started, the tournament directors informed the players that levels 28 & 29 will be reduced to 50 minutes each, and from level 30 onwards the levels will be shortened to 40 minutes for another two levels, then they’ll see after that. It was the same case in the EPT13 Barcelona High Roller event and it’s all due to the huge player fields. –MC

Level 22 – Blinds 12,000/24,000 (4,000 ante)

Day 1 of this record-breaking event played out over 10 levels. An extra level was added (to make it 11) as the Day 2 field was shrunk as much as possible. Such was the size of it that 22 players still remained after they bagged up chips at 2:30am. There is no limit today, we go until we have a winner. Simple.

Grzegorz Wyraz: the man to catch

Satellite winner Grzegorz Wyraz enters the day as the dominant chip leader, but this is No-limit Hold’em and there is still a long way to go before anything is decided. Cards will be in air at 12:30pm CET. Wyraz leads a talented field that will line up as follows:
