Lithuanian Anaras Alekberovas last lit up the European Poker Tour when the made the final table of EPT Barcelona. A solid performance there saw him finish in 4th place for €301,750. Here in Berlin he’s chipped up once again with 1,400,000, just behind chip leader Aku Joentausta’s 1,500,000 (who also went deep in Barcelona).
Alekberovas is currently sat to the left of EPT Tallinn winner Kevin Stani with EPT Prague runner-up Sotirios Koutoupas and Team Pro Alex Kravchenko at the far end of the table. Alekberovas looks like an off duty physicist: all wild hair, ever so slightly manic stare and a tight fit cardigan. Stani, in contrast, looks like a Miami playboy, but it’s Alekberovas with the chips.
Stani had been up to 500,000 but a Koutoupas rivered flush was paid off to drop him to 320,000, much to the disappointment of Jeff Sarwer who’s got a bit of Stani in this Main Event. I did overhear a little of the strategy talk between the two but it would be a little unfair to share that right now.
Sixty-five players remain and both Joentausta and Alekberovas have been pulled back towards the pack with close to 1,200,000 each.
