Home / Uncategorized / EPT9 Berlin: Big, late wins for Lehmanski, Rossiter and Verkaik

The glitz, glamour and mega bucks of the Main Event and High Roller always scoop the focus on the last day of an EPT. Daniel Pidun scooped €880,000 after taking an enormous lead into the heads-up against EPT Player of the Year contender Robert Haigh. Online crusher Griffin Benger finally came good in a live tournament and took down the EPT Berlin High Roller for €429,000, beating the talented Aaron Lim into the runner-up spot. These should take the limelight but they’re not the only stories in town.

While Pidun and Benger were busy lifting their trophies and dancing to the tune of official EPT photographer Neil Stoddart, other well known grinders were still battling to make Berlin a profitable stop on the tour.

Max Lehmanski knocked out Jannick Wrang in the preventing the winner of EPT8 Campione from claiming his second side event of Berlin. Lehmanski had come close in the Main Event, too. The pain of a 46th place bust out (€15,000) must have been softened after taking the larger chunk of a heads-up chop: Lehmanski took €66,800, Wrang €51,500. Faraz Jaka, a final table finisher at last year’s PCA, took 3rd place while the impressive Dan Smith (proven) and Kilian Kramer (rising star and one to watch) also got paid.

Another winner at the curtain close was Nicholas Verkaik who beat reigning EPT Player of the Year Ondrej Vinklarek in the €2,150 deep stack. He won a career-best score of €79,000. Somewhat unbelievably, the €63,000 won by Vinklarek was also the largest single live pay day for the Czech player. A congratulations should also go out to Dutchman Paul Berende who proved his dedication to the game once again by making his third cash and second 5th place finish of the festival.
