Robert Haigh’s phenomenal run in the EPT Berlin Main Event* has pulled him right in behind Slovakian number one Jan Bendik on the EPT Player of the Year leader board. Bendik had looked in a near unassailable position to win with close to a 1,000 point lead over his closest rivals, Kent Lundmark and Steve O’Dwyer, but with Haigh reaching heads-up here he’s guaranteed to pick up at least 850 more points – 1,000 if he wins.

Bendik, following a 91st place finish in this Main Event, is up to 2,745 points and Haigh should chip up to 2,440 if he finishes as runner-up or 2,745 if he turns around the the huge 24,000,000 to 2,800,000 chip deficit that he’s currently sporting.

Robert Haigh: EPT9 Player of the Year?

At the moment, Haigh will be more concerned with the difference between the €880,000 and €531,000 paid out for first and second place but given Daniel Pidun’s huge chip lead it’s going to be a difficult one to pin back. You can check the EPT Player of the Year leader boards here (showing pre-EPT Berlin standings).

The EPT Player of the Year gets a free buy-in to the opening Main Event of the season at EPT Barcelona, worth €5,300, and another lovely, shiny trophy to go on their mantelpiece.
