Home / Uncategorized / EPT9 Monaco: Jason Mercier back to mashing methods, win Open-Face Chinese for €48,000

Jason Mercier has broken an uncharacteristic tournament dry spell by winning the €2,150 Open-Face Chinese poker event here at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final. The Team PokerStars Pro registered late into the event, dropping in by helicopter at the last second to play. That technique seemed to work pretty well for Mercier who booked a €48,000 win.

Do you know the last time that Jason Mercier won a live poker tournament? Last week maybe? Perhaps last month? No, not even last year. Mercier’s been without a trophy and winner’s mug shot since December 2011, which is quite a wait for someone with 13 recorded 1st place finishes and $8,165,530 in live winnings.

Mercier managed to stay ahead of a strong Russian contingent that included fellow Team Pro Alex Kravchencko (5th, €9,300) and chatty Victor Ramdin, who also made the five-handed final table (4th, €12,700).

Mercier plays the Main Event today but perhaps won’t be the best prepared given his late side event finish and the bothersome heavy breathing of Dan O’Brien.
