Eureka3 Bulgaria, Day 1A: Greek PokerStars qualifier leads the field

July 24, 2013

In the UK poker tournament attendances usually suffer when the sun is out, but here in Golden Sands the sun shines all the time. So, as the sun will come out tomorrow you can play poker inside today and 185 players did just that, putting up €1,100 to enter the Eureka3 Bulgaria main event. That all means that this year’s tournament should eclipse season one (308) and season two (246) for field size, 400 entries isn’t out of the question.

There are worse places to bust a tournament

After nine one-hour levels that field was more than chopped in half with 83 players making it through to Day 2. Best placed of the survivors is George Vranas, the 41-year-old Greek PokerStars qualifier bagged up 120,100. “I got lucky once,” he told me but declined to elaborate further.

He wasn’t the only one to enjoy an profitable day at the felt, other players who’ll take a healthy stack into Day 2 include: Richard Larsen (106,000), Jaroslaw Sikora (100,900) and Damyan Danchev (97,600).

There were a few well-known players in the field today including Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Robert Cezarescu, he had a bounty on his head but it remains unclaimed as he finished on 36,700. For the last couple of levels he shared a table with the defending champion of this tournament, Petar Zografov. We spent an orbit following him earlier in the day and the Bulgarian was as low as 5,000 at one point but a treble up through Cezarescu and another player saw him finish the day on 27,300.
