12:10am: It’s over! Hubert Matuszewski wins Eureka6 Prague!
Level 41 – Blinds 800,000/1,600,000 (200,000 ante)

It’s finally over, folks. First Vladas Tamasauskas doubled up with the Kâ™  9♣ against Hubert Matuszewski’s Aâ™  3â™  . The board ran out 5♥ 6♣ Jâ™  6♥ 9â™  and the river saved him.

But then in the next hand it was Matuszewski’s turn to get lucky on the river. He opened jammed the button and Tamasauskas called.

Matuszewski – Qâ™  6â™
Tamasauskas – A♣ 5♥

The flop fell 7♠ A♥ 5♠ , the turn the 4♣ , and the 4♠ river gave Matuszewski a flush and the win.

Tamasauskas banks €188,157 for second, while Matuszewski gets €193,298 for 1st.

11:55pm: Big call from Matuszewski increases lead
Level 40 – Blinds 600,000/1,200,000 (200,000 ante)

The last 20 minutes of Level 40 were uneventful for the most part — more limps, checks, folds, and no showdowns — other than one more instance of Vladas Tamasauskas open-pushing and not getting called.

The level’s penultimate hand, though, was a doozy. Wake up, everybody, and listen.

It began with another limp from Tamasauskas and a check from Hubert Matuszewski. The flop came 4♥ 2♥ Q♥ , Matuszewski checked, Tamasauskas bet 1.2 million, and Matuszewski called. The turn was the Q♣ , and MMatuszewskichecked again. This time Tamasauskas bet 3.4 million, and MMatuszewskicalled once more.

That may suggest the action went quickly, but it didn’t. We’re a few minutes into the hand at this point.

The river was the Kâ™  , and after a long pause Matuszewski checked one more time. Taking about a minute, Tamasauskas bet 7.8 million. Matuszewski didn’t act right away, but over the course of three minutes grabbed his cards (is he folding?), grabbed chips (is he calling?), then grabbed more chips (is he raising?).

Finally he called, and Tamasauskas nodded as he showed A♥ 9♦ for a missed flush draw that had been bluffed. Matuszewski turned over his hand — 6♦ 4♣ for queens and fours! — and took the pot.

Up to about 40 million versus Tamasauskas’s 10 million, Matuszewski open-raised all in the next hand, Tamasauskas folded, and the level concluded.

They’ve decided to continue right on into Level 41 without a break. –MH

11:40pm: Matuszewski spikes river
Level 40 – Blinds 600,000/1,200,000 (200,000 ante)

Hubert Matuszewski made it 2.5 million to go and Vladas Tamasauskas called. The dealer spread the Q♠ 6♦ 2♦ flop and the Pole continued for 2.5 million when it checked to him. Tamasauskas called.

The turn was the 8♣ and both checked to see the 3♣ river. Both checked this one too, and Tamasauskas showed the A♣ hoping ace-high was good. It wasn’t; Matuszewski flipped the K♥ 3♦ for a rivered two pair.

Matuszewski has 32 million, Tamasauskas has 18 million. –JS

11:30pm: Checking in
Level 40 – Blinds 600,000/1,200,000 (200,000 ante)

Updating the last 15 minutes…

At the 24-minute mark of the level, Vladas Tamasauskas open-pushed all in and Hubert Matuszewski folded. Then at the 30-minute mark Matuszewski shoved and Tamasauskas folded. The very next hand after that, Tamasauskas pushed again and Matuszewski folded.

Meanwhile all other hands have been quiet ones without showdowns. In one limp-checked hand, Tamasauskas check-called a 8♠ J♥ 9♠ flop, then both checked the 3♣ turn and 4♠ river. Tamasauskas showed K♠ 7♠ for a flush, and Matuszewski mucked.

Matuszewski has just over 32.5 million and Tamasauskas has 17.5 million –MH

11:15pm: Heads-up hurtles deeper into the night
Level 40 – Blinds 600,000/1,200,000 (200,000 ante)

They did get the clock programmed and it now reads the new level. We’re through the looking glass now. Uncharted territory. Your maps are no good here.

After crossing into Level 40, both players have mostly been limping buttons and checking most postflop streets, exchanging small pots. One exception just now occurred when  Hubert Matuszewski limped on the button, Vladas Tamasauskas made it 3.3 million to go, and Matuszewski called.

The flop came J♠ 4♠ A♣ , and after sitting for about a minute Tamasauskas bet 2.6 million and Matuszewski folded.

The stacks are roughly what they were when heads-up began, with Matuszewski at about 32 million and Tamasauskas sitting behind about 18 million. The voyage continues. –MH

Onward they go

11pm: According to the clock, this one is over
Level 40 – Blinds 600,000/1,200,000 (200,000 ante)

We couldn’t help but notice when the clock was winding down Level 39 that there no ‘next level’ present on the screens. What would happen when the clock ticked right down? We wondered with Y2K-esque panic.

Then it happened. A new level didn’t start. It just ‘FINISHED’ on the screens.

We’ve gone beyond all levels here, folks. The dealer had to ask the floor what the blinds were, and it turns out they’re 600K/1.2M/200K. –JS

Level 39 – Blinds 500,000/1,000,000 (100,000 ante)

Here is how the final two players’ stacks look to begin heads-up play:

Hubert Matuszewski — 32,425,000
Vladas Tamasauskas — 18,200,000

There is just over a half-hour left in the level. Incidentally, the tournament clock has no blinds/antes indicated for the next level, giving an idea just how far this one has gone. –MH

10:35pm: Alessandro Giordano eliminated in 3rd place (€127,250)
Level 39 – Blinds 500,000/1,000,000 (100,000 ante)

After Hubert Matuszewski opened for 2 million from the button, it folded to Alessandro Giordano who reraised all in from the big blind for 8.85 million, and Matuszewski called.

Matuszewski tabled K♠ 6♠ while Giordano had A♠ 2♣ . The flop came K♥ J♦ 3♣ to put Matuszewski in front, and neither the 8♣ turn nor 4♠ river could save Giordano.

The Italian gave handshakes and congratulations to the other two before departing. Finally… heads-up! –MH

Alessandro Giordano – 3rd place

10:25pm: Tamasauskas cripples Giordano, but then he doubles
Level 39 – Blinds 500,000/1,000,000 (100,000 ante)

This three-handed play is never-ending. First Vladas Tamasauskas shoved the small blind with the Q♣ J♦ and was called by Alessandro Giordano in the big with the A♦ Kâ™  . But the 9♣ 5♣ 10♣ 6♥ 8♦ board gave the Lithuanian a straight (and 21.6 million) while Giordano was down to just 3.8 million (three big blinds). “Sick rivers, all the time,” said Hubert Matuszewski.

Then Giordano doubled up with the 10♦ 6♦ through Matuszewski’s Kâ™  Q♣ . The board fell 10♣ A♥ 9♣ 2♥ 6♣ giving him a pair and the double.

Giordano’s back to 7.67 million, while Matuszewski drops a little to 21 million. –JS

10:15pm: Matuszewski doubles through Tamasauskas
Level 39 – Blinds 500,000/1,000,000 (100,000 ante)

A few post-deal small hands were punctuated by another all-in-and-no-call for Hubert Matuszewski, a.k.a. “The Hube.”*

The next hand saw Vladas Tamasauskas min-raise to 2 million, then Matuszewski think a short while before pushing all in and Tamasauskas called.

Matuszewski had A♥ J♣ and the advantage versus Tamasauskas’s A♦ 10♣ , but the 5â™  10â™  6♦ swung the lead  to Tamasauskas. Then came the turn — the Jâ™  ! — putting Matuszewski back ahead, and after the 6♥ river he’d scored the double.

Matuszewski has close to 25 million now, Alessandro Giordano is hovering at 15.5 million, and Tamasauskas has slipped to 9.5 million. –MH

10:05pm: The deal has been made
Level 39 – Blinds 500,000/1,000,000 (100,000 ante)

The three players have agreed on new ICM numbers for their payouts. Here’s what they’re all guaranteed, with €20,000 still to play for.

Vladas Tamasauskas — €188,157
Alessandro Giordano — €180,694
Hubert Matuszewski — €173,298

They’re taking a short break and will be right back. –JS

9:55pm: Deal talk, round two
Level 39 – Blinds 500,000/1,000,000 (100,000 ante)

After a few more hands they’ve paused the clock again to try once more to see if a deal can be reached.

Here are the current stacks (with big blinds next to the totals), which give a good idea why the topic came up again:

Vladas Tamasauskas — 20,100,000 (20 BBs)
Alessandro Giordano — 19,350,000 (19 BBs)
Hubert Matuszewski — 13,850,000 (14 BBs)

9:50pm: Matuszewski doubles through Giordano
Level 39 – Blinds 500,000/1,000,000 (100,000 ante)

On the first hand back, Alessandro Giordano shoved from the small blind and Hubert Matuszewski called from the big blind.

Giordano: 3♣ 3♦
Matuszewski: Q♦ 9♠

The board came A♥ J♥ 5♣ A♦ 5♦ , those two pair on the board counterfeiting Giordano’s small pair and giving Matuszewski the pot. He bumps up over 16 million while Giordano slips to 11 million. –MH

9:25pm: Still three
Level 38 – Blinds 400,000/800,000 (100,000 ante)

The last three orbits of the level saw Hubert Matuszewski all in three times without getting called, then another hand in which Alessandro Giordano shoved over a flop bet by Vladas Tamasauskas to win a pot. –MH

9:20pm: Giordano doubles
Level 38 – Blinds 400,000/800,000 (100,000 ante)

Somehow…someway…don’t ask me…I don’t know how…but we’re still three-handed. Alessandro Giordano has just doubled up through Hubert Matuszewski.

He shoved from the small blind for 9.2 million with the A♥ 4♦ and was called by Matuszewski with the K♥ J♣ . The board ran 10♥ Qâ™  6♦ 5♣ 5♦ and the ace high held, bringing Giordano up to 18.5 million and crashing Matuszewski down to just 4.8 million. –JS

9:10pm: Tamasauskas takes one
Level 38 – Blinds 400,000/800,000 (100,000 ante)

Vladas Tamasauskas limped from the button, Hubert Matuszewski checked the BB, and the flop came 6♦ 5♥ 2♠ . Matuszewski checked, Tamasauskas bet 1 million, Matuszewski check-raised to 2.4 million, and Tamasauskas called.

The turn was the A♠ , and this time Matuszewski fired 3.5 million and after some thought Tamasauskas called. Both then checked the K♦ river.

Matuszewski showed 6♥ 3â™  for a pair of sixes, then Tamasauskas turned over 9♣ 6♣ for the same pair with a better kicker. Tamasauskas is now up around 29 million, Matuszewski has 11.2 million, and Alessandro Giordano is third with around 10 million. –MH

Three-handed play continues

9:05pm: Giordano survives to double through Tamasauskas
Level 38 – Blinds 400,000/800,000 (100,000 ante)

Alessandro Giordano found himself short again after losing a pot to Hubert Matuszewski. But the good news is he has just doubled up.

After Matuszewski folded, Vladas Tamasauskas put Giordano all-in, and the Italian called quickly with the A♣ 3♥ . He was up against the Q♥ 5♥ , but an A♠ 3♦ 4♦ 7♣ J♠ runout was kind to him.

Giordano doubles to 10.1 million, while Tamasauskas has 20 million. –JS

8:55pm: Five hands, five all-ins, two doubles
Level 38 – Blinds 400,000/800,000 (100,000 ante)

As the headline suggests, they’ve reached that stage, folks.

After Alessandro Giordano open-raised all in twice and won the blinds and antes, Hubert Matuszewski did the same on the following hand and he won as well.

The next hand after that saw Vladas Tamasauskas open-raise will all he had from the small blind and get called by Giordano in the big. Tamasauskas was behind with J♣ 10♦ versus Giordano’s K♥ Q♥ , but the board came 10♣ 4♥ 10â™  K♦ 10♥ to give Tamasauskas quads and the double-up.

Then it was Giordano shoving again with Q♣ 2♥ from the small blind, Matuszewski calling from the BB with K♥ 8♥ , and the board running out 3♦ 4♦ 2♦ 10♣ A♣ to give Giordano the double.

After all of that, Tamasauskas has about 21 million, Matuszewski is on about 19.8 million, and Giordano is back to about 10 million. –MH

8:45pm: Matuszewski pulls ahead; takes dominant chip lead
Level 38 – Blinds 400,000/800,000 (100,000 ante)

Everything is going Hubert Matuszewski’s way at the moment, predominantly because he seems to be making the right moves at the right time. Or he has it every time – one or the other.

He picked up most of his chips from Alessandro Giordano. Matuszewski made it 2 million on the button and Giordano three-bet to 5.3 million from the big blind. Matuszewski just called.

The flop came 3♠ 5♥ 8♥ and Giordano continued for 3.6 million. Matuszewski went into the tank, and what he found told him he should move all in. He announced, and got a quick fold from Giordano.

Chip stacks right now are:

Hubert Matuszewski – 26 million
Vladas Tamasauskas – 12.8 million
Alessandro Giordano – 12.4 million

8:30pm: The blinds are big, action little
Level 38 – Blinds 400,000/800,000 (100,000 ante)

The blinds have increased, but the action hasn’t picked up much at all here over the last few orbits. Most hands are seeing the button raise the minimum — whoever that may be — and the blinds folding, with an occasional walk thrown in. Alessandro Giordano continues to maintain his chip lead. –MH

Following a few (relatively) small hands — we tuck “relatively” inside a pair of parentheses because, after all, a 1 or 2 million-chip pot is only small by comparison — one arose that saw Hubert Matuszewski raise to 1.5 million from the small blind, Tamasauskas call from the big blind, and the flop come 2♣ J♥ 5â™  .

Matuszewski led for 1.2 million, sliding his chips out so they jetted across the table before him in much the same fashion we’ve seen Tamasauskas do when he bets. Tamasauskas thought a while and called, then the 7♥ fell on the turn.

Matuszewski sat in contemplation for two minutes, holding onto a column of chips as he did. “I’m all in,” he said finally, and it didn’t take long for Tamasauskas to fold.

Matuszewski has 14 million now, Tamasauskas 10.8 million, and leader Alessandro Giordano 25.8 million. –MH

Then came a hand that saw Matuszewski jam one more time from the small blind, and Rosen Angelov — sitting with a short stack to his left — called to put himself at risk.

Matuszewski: A♣ J♦
Angelov: K♣ 6♣

The flop came all deuces — 2♦ 2â™  2♣ — and Matuszewski remained in front. The turn was the Q♥ and the river the 7♣ , and that was it for Angelov who takes fourth.

It checked to Tamasauskas and he made a bet of 850,000, which was called, before the 4♦ completed the board. Matuszewski checked again and Tamasauskas bet 1.65 million. Matuszewski called but mucked when the Lithuanian turned over the A♦ 10♦ , and with those new chips he has 13.6 million – which is around where Matuszewski was before. Level 36 – Blinds 250,000/500,000 (50,000 ante)

The three hands following Alessandro Giordano’s double-up all featured all-ins, but there were no callers in any of them.

First it was Vladas Tamasauskas open-pushing and winning the blinds and antes. Then Rosen Angelov did it over a Giordano open, and got folds, too. Angelov open-shoved all in the next hand, too, and won another pot. –MH

6:40pm: Huge double puts Giordano back in front
Level 36 – Blinds 250,000/500,000 (50,000 ante)

Rosen Angelov opened for 1.1 million from the button, and after it folded to Alessandro Giordano in the big blind who looked at his cards then announced he was reraising all in. Angelov called in a snap, and Giordano winced just a little at the speed with which he was called.

Angelov turned over the reason for his alacrity, showing Q♣ Q♠ , while Angelov showed his A♣ 7♦ . The latter stood and saw the flop come K♦ 10♦ J♦ , taking away his ace as an out but giving him a flush draw and thus a little better shot at surviving.

Then came the river… the 8♦ ! Giordano yelled out at the sight of the card, then rushed over to get a hug from girlfriend Giada Fang of Team PokerStars Pro Online on the rail.

Meanwhile the two players not in the hand looked at each other. “Close,” said Hubert Matuszewski to the short stack Vladas Tamasauskas. “You were the second saddest,” he added, and Tamasauskas gave a slight nod.

Giordano is now the leader with 20.45 million while Angelov has 7.9 million. –MH

Alessandro Giordano is still short, but is shoving all-in a lot and picking up plenty of blinds and antes. He has around 7.5 million now.

A mistimed raise from Vladas Tamasauskas just cost him some chips. It folded to Rosen Angelov in the small blind and he made it 1.1 million, which Tamasauskas then raised to 2.5 million in the big blind. Angelov shoved and Tamasauskas quickly gave it up.

Tamasauskas is down to 6.025 million, while Angelov is up to 18 million and Hubert Matuszewski has around 16 million. –JS

Tamasauskas paused a bit, then slid out a stack of black 100,000 chips across the table in his typical fashion — a bet that appeared around 1.5 million. Angelov folded quickly, and the small rail of supporters here for Tamasauskas cheered as he collected.

5:40pm: Big stacks battling
Level 35 – Blinds 200,000/400,000 (50,000 ante)

On one side, you have the short stacks: Vladas Tamasauskas and Alessandro Giordano. On the other, the big stacks: Rosen Angelov and Hubert Matuszewski. It was the latter pair who have been tangling the most though.

In this one it folded to Matuszewski on the button and he made it 900,000. Angelov called from the small blind to see the K♣ 7♦ A♣ flop, which checked to the raiser. The Polish player continued for 800,000, and the Bulgarian called.

The turn was the K♠ and both checked to see the 4♦ river. Now Angelov came out firing with a 1.4 million bet. Matuszewski eventually made the call and Angelov turned over the A♦ Q♣ . Matuszewski looked a little deflated and showed he had the A♥ 10♠ but was outkicked.

Angelov now has 20.1 million, and Matuszewski has 13.5 million. –JS

5:25pm: Tamasauskas hanging on
Level 35 – Blinds 200,000/400,000 (50,000 ante)

Following the quick knockouts of James Juvancic and Vojtech Horut, the action has slowed somewhat save the frequent all-ins coming from the shortest stack among those left to play four-handed, Vladas Tamasauskas.

Tamasauskas got involved postflop in one hand versus Alessandro Giordano that ended when Giordano check-raised him on a seven-high, all-black flop, then showed J♦ 8♦ before collecting the pot.

Since that hand, Tamasauskas has been all in three different times, twice over opening raises. In the first two instances he got quick folds, then the third saw Hubert Matuszewski tilt his head and say “close” before letting his hand go, too.

Tamasauskas hangs on with about 5.9 million at the moment. –MH

5:10pm: Vojtech Horut eliminated in 5th place (€63,680)
Level 35 – Blinds 200,000/400,000 (50,000 ante)

Just a couple of hands after the last elimination we had another one. Rosen Angelov opened to 900,000 which was called by Vojtech Horut. They saw a 7♠ 7♥ 3♠ flop, and both checked to the K♠ turn.

Horut chose this point to lead out for 500,000, which Angelov called after a minute of thinking. The 10♣ river completed the board and Horut jammed for 2.8 million – a shove that Angelov couldn’t have called quicker.

Horut – 5♦ 6â™
Angelov – Aâ™  A♥

Angelov had slow played his pocket rockets and it paid off, as he got Horut to bluff off his stack. Horut said his goodbyes, and Angelov increased to 18.6 million. –JS

Level 35 – Blinds 200,000/400,000 (50,000 ante)

James Juvancic had been the short stack for a while and desperately needed a double up. He finally found a great spot, but things didn’t quite work out.

Hubert Matuszewski went to raise but only put 600,000 in, so it was deemed as a call instead. With a limp in front of him, James Juvancic shoved for 3.1 million and when it got back to Matuszewski he called.

Juvancic – A♦ Q♣
Matuszewski – Aâ™  7â™

The board ran out K♦ J♣ 3â™  7♥ 5♥ and with a pair of sevens Matuszewski had got lucky to win. “Nice playing with you guys,” said Juvancic as he made his exit. Matuszewski is up to 16.5 million now. –JS

4:30pm: “Vamos!” says Giordano as he doubles through Horut
Level 34 – Blinds 150,000/300,000 (50,000 ante)

Vojtech Harut was on the button and made it 625,000 to go. It folded to Alessandro Giordano in the big blind and he jammed for 3.6 million, which Horut called.

It was a race as Harut had the 7♠ 7♣ and Giordano the A♣ J♣ . The flop came 2♣ 10♠ Q♠ giving the Italian a straight draw, and the 4♣ turn gave him a flush draw too. The K♥ river completed the straight draw.

“Yes! Vamos!” he shouted, as went to high-five his girlfriend, Team Online’s Giada Fang. He’s up to 7.7 million now, while Horut drops to 4.275 million. –JS

4:25pm: Rosen Angelov still in front

Rosen Angelov is still in front with about 15 minutes to go in the level with just over 15 million, Hubert Matuszewski is next with about 9.8 million, followed by Vojtech Horut (8.6 million), Vladas Tamasauskas (6.9 million), James Juvancic (4.8 million), and Alessandro Giordano (4.15 million). –MH

4:20pm: Juvancic doubles through Tamasauskas
Level 34 – Blinds 150,000/300,000 (50,000 ante)

Vladas Tamasauskas opened for 650,000 from early position, and James Juvancic pushed all in from the next seat over, setting all of his chips forward in one tall column and saying “2.125” when he did, letting all know the reraise was for 2,125,000.

It folded back to Tamauskas who thought just a bit before calling, and Juvancic nodded, saying how in his opinion Tamauskas ought to call him “even with seven-deuce.”

Tamauskas had better than that — Q♣ 10♦ — while Juvancic had A♥ 9♥ . The board came 6♣ 4♥ Kâ™  , then 9♣ , then 8♥ , and Juvancic survived.

With the blinds and antes Juvancic bumps up around 4.8 million while Tamauskas now has 6.9 million. –MH

3:55pm: Jawad Bengourane eliminated in 7th place (€31,840)
Level 34 – Blinds 150,000/300,000 (50,000 ante)

From middle position Jawad Bengourane opened with a raise to 650,000, and when it got around to Rosen Angelov on the button he deliberated a short while before raising to 1.35 million. The blinds both folded, and after pausing a beat Bengourane called the reraise.

The flop came Q♦ 10♥ 9♦ and Bengourane checked. Angelov took just a moment before betting 1.35 million. Bengourane then took his time, counting out all of his chips and arranging them in a row before him — about 3 million. Finally he announced he was all in, and Angelov called in a heartbeat.

Bengourane: A♣ Q♠
Angelov: 9♣ 9♥

Angelov had flopped a set versus his opponent’s top pair, then the Q♣ turn made him a full house. Bengourane had improved to trips and still could draw out, but the turn was the 8â™  and Bengourane is out. The Frenchman wished the table well before departing.

3:45pm: Juvancic pushes
Level 34 – Blinds 150,000/300,000 (50,000 ante)

James Juvancic just open-pushed all-in and got no callers, adding a few to his stack. He’s still on the short side with 3.95 million. –MH

3:40pm: Horut doubles up by hitting Barry Greenstein
Level 34 – Blinds 150,000/300,000 (50,000 ante)

A strange headline to write, but you’ll see what we mean soon.

Vladas Tamasauskas opened to 625,000 in the hijack only for Vojtech Horut to move all-in for 4.225 million on the button. Back on Tamasauskas, he got as count and then called with the 10♣ 10♦ , up against the A♠ Q♦ .

The 7♦ K♠ J♦ flop kept the tens in front but gave Horut a straight draw. The turn was the K♣ , meaning that straight draw was now a no-go as it would give Tamasauskas a full house. But the A♥ on the river gave Horut a bigger pair and the double up.

Tamasauskas drops to 6.3 million, while Horut is up to 9.3 million.

3:30pm: Giordano shoves again, no takers
Level 33 – Blinds 125,000/250,000 (25,000 ante)

A short sequence of hands featuring preflop opens and no callers was interrupted just now by Alessandro Giordano open-raising all in from middle position, and after everyone folded he claimed the blinds and antes.

3:25pm: Horut in action
Level 33 – Blinds 125,000/250,000 (25,000 ante)

Earlier today we noted how after an early skirmish Vojtech Horut had been mostly quiet. Just now he bucked that trend with three straight opening raises, producing varying results from each.

In the first his 525,000 open was met with an all-in push by Alessandro Giordano. Horut folded, and Giordano has 3.7 million now.

On the next hand Horut made it 525,000 again from middle position, Vladas Tamasauskas called from the big blind, then Tamasauskas check-called a bet of 300,000 from Horut following a 4♠ 10♦ 4♣ flop. Both checked the 2♥ turn and A♦ river, and when Tamasauskas showed A♠ 8♠ Horut mucked. Tamasauskas is up to 9.85 million.

Finally Horut opened for 525,000 again from under the gun, James Juvancic called from the big blind, then after a 5♠ 3♥ 10♣ flop Juvancic checked, Horut bet 300,000, and Juvancic folded to preserve his 4.95 million.

After those hands Horut is at about 4.55 million. –MH

3:20pm: Giordano drops and consoles in Fang
Level 33 – Blinds 125,000/250,000 (25,000 ante)

Alessandro Giordano’s girlfriend, PokerStars Team Online’s Giada Fang, is on the rail cheering him on today. However, there’d be no cheering after this hand.

Jawad Bengourane opened to 550,000 under the gun plus one, only to be three-bet to 1.25 million by Giordano in the hijack. It folded back to Bengourane and he called to see a 9♦ 6♠ K♥ flop. Bengourane had checked in the dark so Giordano continued for 950,000 and was called.

The turn was the K♣ and both checked, followed by the 2â™  , which also went check check. Bengourane tabled the J♣ 9♣ for a pair of nines and Giordano looked disgusted as he mucked. He went over to see Fang and expressed his frustration, looking back at Bengourane. I couldn’t help but notice a little happy smirk appeart on the Frenchman’s face, as he moved up to 5.8 million, while Giordano drops to 4.6 million. –JS

3pm: Piotr Romanczukiewicz eliminated in 8th place (€22,500)
Level 33 – Blinds 125,000/250,000 (25,000 ante)

There has finally been a final table elimination in a hand involving a not-so-standard situation.

Having nursed his short stack for nearly two hours today, Piotr Romanczukiewicz opened from middle position with a raise to 1.325 million, leaving himself just 200,000 behind. That meant no “all-in triangle,” which ended up being a key detail moving forward.

It folded to Vojtech Horut on the button who not having seen the raise (which he might well have had it been an all-in), put out 500,000 without saying a word. It was clear that Horut had missed seeing Romanczukiewicz was in the hand, and after the dealer clarified this was indeed the case the floor was called for a ruling.

It was explained that having put out his bet without declaring anything in a multi-way pot with action still pending (the blinds had yet to act), Horut had two options — either to fold and give up the 500,000, or call Romanczukiewicz’s opening raise.

He chose the latter, the blinds got out, and the flop came 6♦ Q♠ Q♦ . Romanczukiewicz put his last 200,000 forward and Horut called, and Romanczukiewicz showed a flush draw with K♦ 10♦ while Horut tabled A♣ 2♠ .

The turn was the 3♣ and river the 4♥ , and Romanczukiewicz wished the table good luck before departing in eighth. Horut now has about 6.6 million. –MH

2:50pm: Angelov and Horut battling
Level 33 – Blinds 125,000/250,000 (25,000 ante)

It’s been the same two players going to battle recently. Rosen Angelov and Vojtech Horut are playing a lot of pots together, while the others seem happy to sit back and watch (particularly the short stack of Piotr Romanczukiewicz, who would surely be happy to ladder up a pay jump).

First off, Angelov made it 525,000 and Horut called out of the small blind. The dealer spread a J♣ 5♦ A♥ flop and Horut led out for 600,000, which Angelov called quickly to see a 7♥ turn. It went check check, and the 10♥ completed the board. There’d be no more action and when the hands were flipped it was Aâ™  9â™  for Angelov and A♦ 9♦ for Horut. Chop it up.

Nearly an orbit later and Angelov made it 550,000 to go from the hijack. Horut defended his big blind and when the J♦ 5♦ 2♠ flop fell he checked. Angelov continued for 750,000 and Horut called.

The turn was the 2♣ and Angelov fired again for 1.5 million when it checked to him. Horut folded and dropped to 3.6 million, while Angelov takes the chip lead with 10.3 million. –JS

2:35pm: Updated chip counts, 8 remain; Tamasauskas leads

Players are back and playing again, with Vladas Tamasauskas returning to the chip lead while Rosen Angelov and Hubert Matuszewski aren’t far behind. Meanwhile Piotr Romanczukiewicz continues to toil in eighth where he’s been persevering through the first hour-and-a-half. –MH

2:10pm: Horut bets big
Level 32 – Blinds 100,000/200,000 (25,000 ante)

Action folded to Vojtech Horut on the button and he made it 400,000 to play, which only Jawad Bengourane matched from the small blind to see the 10♠ 8♥ [9]. Check check.

The 3♦ fell on the turn and now Bengourane took the betting lead with a 450,000 stab. Horut called and the river was the 8♦ , pairing the board. Bengourane checked, and Horut slid out a big bet of 1.3 million. Bengourane gave it up. –JS

2pm: Horut three-bet pushes, collects
Level 32 – Blinds 100,000/200,000 (25,000 ante)

We haven’t heard too much from Vojtech Horut during this level, although just now he made his presence well known following an opening raise to 420,000 from the button by Vladas Tamasauskas.

When the action reached Horut in the big blind he ssat for a moment, then said he was reraising all in and began pushing his stacks. One toppled over to slide forward, but by then Tamasaukas had already let his hand go.

Horut has 4.15 million right now, while Tamasauskas has chipped up even more to 8.7 million. –MH

1:55pm: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it
Level 32 – Blinds 100,000/200,000 (25,000 ante)

Vladas Tamsauskas has found a winning strategy: he bets, everyone else folds. It worked two hands in a row, why not keep it going?

That’s exactly what he did, making it 420,000 to go again for the third time in a row, this time in the utg+1 seat. This time he got some action, as Jawad Bengourane three-bet it up to 1.05 million from the cutoff. Tamasauskas flat called and the two saw a 6♦ 7♥ 4â™  flop hit the felt. Both checked.

The turn came the Jâ™  and still we had no more betting. Finally the J♣ arrived on the river to complete (and pair) the board. Tamasauskas came in for a bet of 885,000 and the action was on Bengourane. He counted out a call, and then reached for more chips like he was going to raise. Tamasauskas stared at Bengourane’s chips the entire time.

But the Frenchman was having doubts. “Will you show me if I fold?” he asked the Lithuanian. “You can see one card,” replied Tamasauskas.

“Hmmm…two cards! One time!” pleaded Bengourane, to no avail. Then he started bargaining. “You show me two now, then when you want to see my cards in the future, I will show both to you one time.”

No deal was made, and in the end Bengourane knew the only way he was seeing those cards was to call. He did, but mucked when Tamasauskas showed the A♠ K♦ for ace high with the pair of jacks.

Bengourane drops to 4.73 million, and Tamasauskas increases to 6.6 million. –JS

1:40pm: Giordano and Matuszewski tied at the top
Level 32 – Blinds 100,000/200,000 (25,000 ante)

A hand just went to showdown involving the two biggest stacks at the table, Alessandro Giordano and Hubert Matuszewski.

It began with a middle-position open to 425,000 from Giordano with Matuszewski calling from the next seat over. The flop was 3♦ 5♠ A♥ and both checked, then Giordano bet 425,000 after the 7♦ turn and Matuszewski called.

The river was the Kâ™  , and this time Giordano bet 770,000. Matuszewski confirmed the amount and didn’t take too long after that to call, and Giordano tabled Aâ™  10♦ . Matuszewski had that kicker nipped as he had A♣ J♣ , and he claimed the pot.

Giordano now has about 9.12 million while Matuszewski is right at 9.1 million himself — a virtual tie at the top. –MH

1:25pm: New chip leader?
Level 32 – Blinds 100,000/200,000 (25,000 ante)

It’s too close to tell without getting official counts, but it seems like Hubert Matuszewski has taken the chip lead. Before the blinds went up, he opened to 350,000 from under the gun plus one and it folded to Jawad Bengourane in the big blind who defended. They saw a 10â™  4♣ 7â™  flop, and both checked.

The turn was the 5♣ and now Bengourane led out for 260,000, only to be raised to 625,000 by the Pole. Bengourane called and we went to a river.

It came the Aâ™  and both checked quickly. Matuszewski showed the 5â™  5♥ for a turned set, and Bengourane mucked, bringing his stack to 5.96 million. Matuszewski is up to 8.75 million which might have overtaken Alessandro Giordano. –JS

Level 31 – Blinds 80,000/160,000 (20,000 ante)

A quiet start for the most part here as they complete the last half of Level 31. As the blind-and-ante jump approached, Hubert Matuszewski opened for 320,000 from the hijack seat and Rosen Angelov called to his left. It folded around to Vladas Tamasauskas in the big blind who thought for about a minute, then slid out a three-bet reraise to 1.28 million.

Action back on Matuszewski, he sat quietly for a short while, then looked right from Seat 1 and told the dealer “all in.” Angelov quickly folded, and while Tamasauskas also didn’t waste much time, he slid his cards away slowly as though not wanting to part with the cards.

Matuszewski has 7.75 million now, while Tamasauskas sits with 4.5 million. –MH

It took five hands before we got to see the first flop of the day. Action folded to Vladas Tamasauskas on the button and he raised it up to 340,000. Vojtech Horut defended his blind and the dealer spread three cards down.

They were the 9♣ Q♣ 10â™  and Horut checked, letting Tamasauskas come in for a 380,000 continuation bet. Horut made the call, and the turn came the Q♥ . He’d check again and this time Tamasauskas made it 785,000, which would get Horut to fold. –JS

Seat 1: Hubert Matuszewski, 37, Poland, PokerStars player – 5,950,000

While battling for his spot at the Eureka Prague Main Event final table, Hubert Matuszewski was making pay jumps in another tournament. He left his stack alone for Day 2 of the €330 PokerStars Cup, concentrating on the deep run in the Main Event. “About 120 players were eliminated before my stack blinded out, then I just received my payout ticket worth €550,” he said with a smile. The 37-year-old from Poznan says he’s on a hot streak, cashing in the last five events he entered. Even so, Matuszewski considers himself a recreational player. “I don’t have much time to play poker, I have a wife and two kids,” he explains. Matuszewski’s biggest previous payday was €41,162 for fifth place in the EPT13 Barcelona €330 PokerStars Cup.

However, the Pole is certainly excited to make his first live event final table. “Generally, I’m okay but in the big pots, I’m of course little nervous.” Apart from poker, Romanczukiewicz likes watching basketball, mainly the Los Angeles Lakers.
