We’re used to seeing big fields and tough final tables full of familiar usernames and well-regarded pros in the Super Tuesday this week, and tonight fulfilled such expectations once again.

From a field of 591 the final nine featured several we’d recognized from Super Tuesdays and Sunday tourneys past, among them Jason “jdtjpoker” Wheeler, Vlad “dariepoker” Darie, Daniel “42ayay” Erlandsson, Audrius “Davydenko123” Miliauskas, and Victor “Tu Ta Tenso?” Talamini. And when the final hand was dealt, the player collecting all of the chips and this week’s first-place prize of $111,699 was yet another player often found at final tables both live and online — Jason “jakoon1985” Koon.

With more than $2.7 million in live tournament winnings and even more than that online, Koon unsurprisingly has collected his share of big wins on PokerStars before, including a SCOOP title back in 2009 for which he earned $266,881.13. Koon also has had victories in the Sunday 500 (in 2010) and the Sunday Warm-Up (in 2012), and this week adds a Super Tuesday win and another six-figure cash to the collection.

The big field of 591 created a prize pool of $591,000, easily besting the $400K guarantee. By the time they’d crossed the tournament’s five-and-a-half-hour mark that big turnout had been carved down to just 73 players with hand-for-hand play commencing across the remaining nine tables.

A short while later a short-stacked Tim “tamiam122” Cramer was knocked out by Vicente “vicenfish” Delgado Zamorano when the latter made a flush with A♥ K♥ to top Cramer’s Q♥ Qâ™  and burst the cash bubble.

About two hours later they were down to 18, with Audrius “Davydenko123” Miliauskas the chip leader and three-time Super Tuesday winner Jason “jdtjpoker” Wheeler not far behind in second position.

DEX888 (18th), raymondo922 (17th), and bgame153 (16th) were the next out, each earning $4,728. Rafael “zugzwang16” Porzecanski (15th), treidei3 (14th), and K0VAK (13th) followed, picking up $5,910 apiece. Then JMDA Y SALO (12th), Charles “Chilax Chuck” Sylvestre (11th), and Heartthrob10 (10th) successively hit the rail, picking up $7,092 each for not quite making the final table.

With the elimination of Heartthrob10 the nine-hour break arrived, and Jason “jakoon1985” Koon found himself the chip leader to start the final table.

About 15 minutes after play resumed, a still-short Jason “jdtjpoker” Wheeler open-pushed a stack of just under 80,000 (not quite nine big blinds) from middle position and watched AnyGameSir reraise-shove from the small blind to isolate. Wheeler had K♦ 10♦ but had run into AnyGameSir’s A♣ A♥ , and after the board came Aâ™  J♥ 6♣ 2♦ 10♥ Wheeler’s quest for a fourth Super Tuesday title ended with a ninth-place finish.

On the very next hand it was Vlad “dariepoker” Darie similarly open-pushing from early position with an identical stack of just under nine BBs, and this time it was th’Kick reraising all in from the small blind. Darie had 4♣ 4♥ and was well behind th’Kick’s 8♦ 8â™  , and with no help from the community cards Darie was sent railward in eighth.

About 15 minutes later AnyGameSir opened the action with a min-raise to 20,000 from early position, Jason “jakoon1985” Koon called from the button, then Daniel “42ayay” Erlandsson reraised all in for a little over 60,000 from the big blind. AnyGameSir responded with a reraise to just over 100,000, Koon then reraised again to 145,700, and AnyGameSir called.

The flop came Q♦ 5♦ 7♣ , AnyGameSir checked, Koon fired a bet of 90,500, and AnyGameSir stepped aside. Koon then showed A♣ J♥ and was ahead of Erlandsson’s A♥ 8â™  . The turn was the J♦ and river the Qâ™  , and Erlandsson was out in seventh.

About 10 minutes after that hand Martin “nizmo jiz” Kozlov open-pushed for just over 100,000 (or 10 BBs) from UTG with K♥ J♥ , Victor “Tu Ta Tenso?” Talamini called from the cutoff with A♥ J♦ , and after the board ran out nine-high Kozlov was eliminated in sixth.

They were nearing the 10-hour mark when Victor “Tu Ta Tenso?” Talamini min-raised to 24,000 from UTG+1, AnyGameSir three-bet to 52,225 from the small blind, then th’Kick reraised all in from the big blind for 68,367. Both Talamini and AnyGameSir called, then after a 8♦ 5♣ K♦ flop AnyGameSir led with a bet and Talamini released his hand.

AnyGameSir showed A♣ 7♦ and th’Kick 6♣ 6â™  . The turn was the 5♥ and th’Kick was still best. But the river brought the A♥ to pair AnyGameSir’s hand, and th’Kick was done in fifth.

Audrius “Davydenko123” Miliauskas would be the next to fall in fourth after open-pushing a stack of just over 315,000 from the small blind with A♣ 8♥ and getting called by AnyGameSir sitting one seat over with A♥ 7♦ . A seven fell on the flop to help AnyGameSir, and two cards later they were down to three.

Less than five minutes later Jason “jakoon1985” Koon opened with a just-over-2x raise to 34,880 from the button, Victor “Tu Ta Tenso?” Talamini reraised all in from the small blind for almost 285,000, and Koon called. Koon had 6â™  6♣ while Talamini showed A♥ 5♣ , then the 10â™  8♥ 9♣ 7â™  9♦ board added up to a straight for Koon and a third-place finish for Talamani.

After that hand Koon took an almost 3-to-1 chip advantage to heads-up play versus AnyGameSir, having 2,179,224 versus the latter’s 775,776.

Almost 30 hands and a little over 15 minutes later AnyGameSir had chipped up close to 1 million when a hand arose that saw a preflop raising war end with AnyGameSir all in and at risk.

The blinds were 9,000/18,000, and it was Koon opening with a raise to 39,240 from the button. AnyGameSir then made it 92,225 to go, Koon four-bet to 242,000, AnyGameSir shoved for 993,906, and Koon called.

AnyGameSir: 10♥ 10♠
jakoon1985: Aâ™  Qâ™

It was a race, and after the flop came Q♣ Q♥ 9♣ Koon was way in front with trip queens. The turn was the 7♦ and river the 8â™  and it was all over — not quite 10 hours and 45 minutes after the tournament had begun, Koon had won.
