KO Sunday gave us plenty to shout about this weekend. Prize pools reached a total of over $6 million across 12 tourneys, including $2M in the Sunday Million. The majority of winners managed to near double their totals with knockouts.
Here are the highlights and results from an action packed weekend.
Familiar faces in the Sunday Warm-Up: The $215 Sunday Warm-Up is usually quite a mellow affair, starting earlier and attracting a smaller field than later events. The PKO element brought a lively twist and the prize pool stretched to nearly $300k. Sam “SamSquid” Grafton was among the last standing but fell in 23rd. Fintan “easywithaces” Hand busted shortly after in 17th. “ivanlimeira” of Brazil, who has a good handful of PKO victories lining his $2.2 million online record, claimed first place for $31,700, with nearly half coming from knockouts.
“madroo75” denies Steve Tripp in $22 Mini Million: The $22 Mini Sunday Million had a pretty huge field (14,229 entries). Still, legendary Canadian pro Steve “BetrThanPhil” Tripp found his way to the business end of the final table. Tripp has a huge record, including a SCOOP PKO win worth $190k. This time, however, he couldn’t quite finish the job. Tripp earned $16k for second, and was denied by “madroo75” of Hungary. madroo75 picked up the final bounty to bring their winning score to $21,044, registering their biggest ever online cash.
Big bounties in the Fat Sunday: By the time the tourney hit the final table, the PKO edition of the $215 Fat Sunday, technically a High Roller Club event, had huge bounties on offer. Parker “tonkaaaa” Talbot from Canada, who showed particular zeal in last year’s Stadium Series by taking down both a Heat and Final (the latter worth $261k), came third for $8.5k. REQUINTE from Brazil picked up second for $14.5k. It was “Storimas” from Poland, who as a High Roller Series and Turbo Series winner is also no stranger to final tables, took the top spot for $21,469.
Top ranked Brazilian rivals face off in Supersonic: Five Sunday Supersonic events featured the PKO format. The final table of the HRC $1,050 Supersonic was particular interesting. The top three players all hailed from Brazil, and at least two of them are highly ranked. Bruno “great dant” Volkmann is currently ranked third in Brazil and sixth worldwide on PocketFives. He finished third. “welkerjohnny”, credentials unknown, came second. It was Pedro “PaDiLhA SP” Padilha, who is another of Brazil’s top players and has multiple SCOOP titles, WCOOP and EPT Online wins under his belt, claimed first place for $35,249. This was also the bounty success story of the night, with $23,062 of Padilha’s total (more than double the first place prize) coming from knockouts.
Three KO Sunday tourneys were two day events. The Sunday Million reached an epic prize pool of $2 million! “Yura.tomsk” from Russia came second for a total of $79,752. “pekarinu7203” from Japan took the top spot for a total of $111,411.
The $530 Bounty Builder HR has a $1.3 million prize pool and, because the field is significantly smaller, final table payouts exceeded those in the Sunday Million. Second place “$eT4x4” from the UK had an excellent run that earned them nearly $32k in bounties alone and a total of $117,428. “VicFiorese” from Brazil claimed first place and the final bounty for a grand total of $126,632 – the biggest MTT score of the weekend.
Even the special edition $55 Mini Bounty Builder HR was a show stopper this week, garnering a prize pool of over $1 million. “craigaces21” from the UK won the event for $66,500 (inc. bounties).
