If you know your hemispherical science, you know that it’s just about wintertime south of the equator. It’s time for a break on the Latin American Poker Tour–a two-month slumber by a crackling fire to cuddle up in the winter months or to escape to the summer climes in the north. That break on the LAPT gives us a chance to take a look at how the tour’s Player of the Year race is shaping up.

The LAPT’s first events in Chile and Uruguay are already done for the year. With those events behind us, we must look to the side events to find our fearless leader. Argentina’s Christian Alejandro Sare won two side events in Punta del Este, Uruguay. That performance alone was good enough to push him to the top of the heap in the Player of the Year standings.

In other awards news, the LAPT Uruguay winner, Marcelo Fonseca, currently leads the “Best Online Qualifier” race, followed by Osvaldo Silvio Resquin, and Joao Lopes. Meanwhile, the nation of Colombia and its 22.6% cashers/entrants percentage is winning the race for Best Latin American Country of the Year. Venezuela and Peru sit in second and third respectively.

For now, the LAPT is on a two-month hiatus before returning in August for the Colombia National Championships.
