Home / Uncategorized / LAPT7 Chile: A four-way chop, then Resk, Melo fall

Down to just four after Johann Ibanez’s knockout, deal talk was revived and this time terms were reached in short order.

At the time of the second round of deal discussions, Rodrigo Perez still led and Jefferson Melo was the short stack. The terms of the deal agreed upon were as follows;

Rodrigo Perez — $120,000
Luis Resk — $95,000
Mario Lopez — $95,000
Jefferson Melo — $90,000

That left $22,991 to play for, plenty enough to keep things interesting going forward after each had locked up nice paydays.

Not long after the deal, a blind-versus-blind hand arose between Resk and Lopez that saw Resk check-calling a flop bet after a 4♠ 5♠ 3♣ flop, then checking again after the 8♣ turn card.

At that Lopez pushed all in for 980,000, and after thinking about a half-minute Resk called. Lopez had 3♦ 3♠ for a set while Resk was drawing to a straight with 2♦ 2♠ . The river brought the 4♥ , and Lopez was up to just over 3 million while Resk dropped to 1.3 million.

Then came two hands in quick succession, both involving Melo.

The first saw Lopez open with a raise, Melo reraise all in for 1.05 million from the small blind, then Perez reraise-shoving from the big blind to chase Lopez. It was A♣ 9♠ for Melo and A♥ 10♠ for Perez, and after the board rolled out 7♠ 7♦ Q♥ 4♦ J♥ , that river jack helped Melo survive with a chopped pot.

On the very next hand, Melo open-pushed from the button with that stack of just over 1 million and Resk took the risk, calling all in with his last chips from the big blind.

Resk: A♦ J♥
Melo: Q♥ 9♠

Again Melo was behind before the flop, but the first three community cards came 7♣ 3â™  9♦ to pair Melo, and after the 6♣ turn and 5â™  river, Resk’s run was done in fourth.

Just minutes later, Melo was back at it, raising his small blind and seeing Perez call from the next seat. The flop came 6♦ 9♣ 2♦ , and at that Melo was pushing all in and Perez called quickly, turning over 10♣ 9♥ for top pair while Melo had Aâ™  K♣ . The turn was the 7♥ and river the 2♣ , and just like that “GoiaBa” is out and they are down to two.

Rodrigo Perez carries a big chip lead to heads-up play with 9.265 million to Mario Lopez’s 2.55 million. Will Perez win it for Chile? Or with the Argentinian mount a comeback? Stay tuned.
