Home / Uncategorized / LAPT7 Chile: Down to 14 as Tavitian’s title defense ends

The theme today at the LAPT Chile Main Event has been preflop confrontations leading to all-in situations and subsequent bustouts of the shorter stacks.

That’s been the pattern throughout, and a similar scenario punctuated the start of Level 23 when Leonardo Lisi of Argentina took K♥ J♦ up against chip leader Rodrigo Perez’s Aâ™  J♣ , and the 10♣ Jâ™  3â™  5â™  4♥ run out eliminated Lisi in 18th ($7,140).

The next knockout, however, came after the flop. That one began with Victor Lay of Peru raising before the flop and the Brazilian Jefferson Melo calling. Melo then called bets from Lay following both the 2♥ Q♠ 7♦ flop and K♣ turn.

The 3♥ fell on the river, and it was Lay’s turn to contemplate a bet from Melo — one big enough to put Lay all in. Finally Lay called, showing his A♣ Aâ™  , but Melo had rivered two pair with Q♣ 3♦ and Lay was out in 17th ($8,060).

The preflop all-in pattern then revived again after the Argentinian Pablo Tavitian committed with 2â™  2♦ against Perez’s 10♥ 10♦ and earned no help from the board to be ousted in 16th ($8,060) — a nice run for Tavitian in defense of his LAPT6 Chile title.

Then came another post-flop conflict, this time involving Brazil’s Pedro Padilha and Robert Lipkin of Illinois who playing from Canada has won the Sunday Warm-Up on PokerStars as as “PlayaPlz.”

Those two got the last of Padihla’s chips in on a 2â™  Q♥ 3♥ flop with both having flopped top pair, but Padihla’s Q♣ 5♣ well behind the K♦ Q♦ of Lipkin. The turn was the J♥ and river the 7♥ , and Padihla was out in 15th ($8,980).

After that spate of busts, Level 24 begins with Mario Lopez having edged past Perez in the counts as both players near the 2 million-chip mark. Raul Pino and Jefferson Melo are next, both hovering around 1.3 million, while Rafael Pardo, Luis Lepori, and Pedro Dib are now on the short stacks.
