Play is underway for Day 3 at the Latin American Poker Tour Chile Main Event, and they’ve hit the ground running. Before the last minutes of Level 20 could conclude, three eliminations came in short order.

Martin Fuentes of Uruguay started the day near the bottom of the counts with just 125,000 and soon was committing his stack after picking up 9â™  9♦ . Alas for Fuentes, Brazil’s Guilherme Pita had been dealt 10â™  10♦ , and when the board brought no help for Fuentes he was out in 32nd ($4,120).

Jaime Lezama of Mexico then exited in 31st after losing most of his stack early with Aâ™  K♥ against an opponent’s 3â™  3♥ , then picking up a small pair of his own — 2â™  2♥ — that failed to hold against Pedro Padilha’s Aâ™  9♦ . And the Chilean Christian Klapp followed soon thereafter in 30th after his A♦ 2♦ couldn’t outrun Victor Sbrissa’s 10â™  10♥ , like Lezama earning $4,600.

Meanwhile Akkari began the day short-stacked but optimistic, striking the favored thumbs-up pose of leader Jefferson Melo before play began.

Andre Akkari

The Brazilian folded through the first orbit at the feature table, and as Level 21 began was open-raising all in from the hijack seat for his last 90,000 (eight-and-a-half big blinds), getting one caller in the Argentine Mario Lopez playing from the small blind.

Lopez: 7♠ 7♦
Akkari: 10♥ 6♠

The Team PokerStars Pro was in rough shape, and couldn’t help but smile as the situation got even rougher following a K♣ 7♥ 6♥ flop that gave Lopez a set.

The smile grew even wider at the sight of the 9♥ turn, a card affording both straight and flush possibilities. But the 5♣ fell on fifth and Akkari rose, patting the table and then shaking hands all around as his LAPT Chile run had concluded in 29th ($4,660).

Meanwhile… Melo. He still leads in the early going as the short stacks continue their fidgeting.
