The quest for three has ended, and with it the tournament moves from three tables down to two. Nacho Barbero’s LAPT Peru Grand Final run is over, as are his hopes of a record-setting third LAPT title.

Before Barbero’s exit we saw a jack-high flop encourage the German Hans-Jurgen Strenger to get the last of his 240,000 in the middle with Q♥ Jâ™  versus the Uruguayan Daniel Campodonico. But Campodonico had A♥ A♦ , and with the turn and river being a couple of blanks Strenger was out in 21st while Campodonico cruised up over the 1.3 million-chip mark and into first position.

The Argentinian Osvoldo Lewis was next felled in 20th by the lone remaining American in the tournament, Ryan Deroo. Then Ezio Fenocchio of Colombia committed a short stack with Q♦ 3♦ and was up against Luis Perez’s 5♣ 5â™  . The 2♣ K♣ 3♣ flop and Q♣ turn gave Fenocchio two pair but a flush to Perez. The river then failed to fill up Fenocchio who went out in 19th.

David Perez of Mexico next went out in 18th after a hand against Oscar Alache. In the hand Perez had opened with a raise, was three-bet by Alache playing from the big blind, then called. Alache led the 5♣ 3♥ 3♣ flop and Perez called, then after Alache shoved the 10♠ turn Perez called once more.

It was 8♣ 8♦ for Perez who saw he was ahead of Alache’s Aâ™  Kâ™  . But the A♥ on the river swung the pot Alache’s way.

That’s when a hand arose that saw Barbero raise from the button and his fellow countryman Jose Torre call from the big blind. The flop came 5♥ 10♦ 9♥ , Torre checked, Barbero bet, then after a Torre check-raise Barbero shoved for his last 450,000 and Torre made the call.

Barbero turned over 10♣ 9♣ for top two pair while Torre had 10♥ 4♥ for tens plus a flush draw. That draw came in with the 3♥ turn, and after the 3♠ river Barbero was done in 17th.

With a half-hour to go in Level 24 the tournament has been paused momentarily in order to redraw for the final two tables, with Campodonico still the leader with 1,358,000 and Gerardo Godinez now close behind with 1,324,000.
