Seven more have fallen during the first part of post-dinner play here at the LAPT Bahamas Main Event. Mustapha Kanit continues to maintain his big stack of 700,000-plus, but there’s a new leader for now — Kyle Frey.
As Carlos Monti our photographer explained, that pose represents Frey’s look for the last 20 minutes. “Stone!” says Carlos, alluding to Frey’s holding still. The American player is not moving much, but when he does the result has been chips sliding his way as he sits with roughly 900,000 of them.
To catch up on the action over the last 45 minutes, Alexander Haber of Jamaica fell in 42nd shortly after play resumed. Then Jean Seber was all in with a short stack with K♦ 3♣ versus an opponent’s K♥ 6♥ and when the board brought no help the Belgian fell in 41st. Then the Finnish player Jussi Nevanlinna followed in 40th as they reached the midpoint of the level.
Those three each earned $7,000 for their finishes, then the next four to go each took away $7,980. Felipe Difini was the next out in 39th after taking K♣ Jâ™ up against Paul Volpe’s Aâ™ 9â™ , then watching the board roll out ten-high.
“I told you that you had the momentum,” commented Barry Hutter to Volpe afterwards, who upon stacking his new chips was up over 525,000.
Victor Begara was next to go in 38th after calling a four-bet shove with A♥ K♣ and going up against an opponent’s 7♥ 7♦ . The flop brought a seven and the Brazilian was drawing dead by the turn.
Vladislav Donchev of Bulgaria followed in 37th, then the U.K.’s Tom Hall in 36th.
Those who remain still battle around the final four tables, with a number of other notables among them. Jonathan Karamalikis, Taylor Paur, Martin Finger, Aaron Massey, Robert Mizrachi, and Alex Bilokur are all still with chips, as are not one but two PCA Main Event champions — Galen Hall (2011) and Dimitar Danchev (2013).
Word is the plan will be to play through 11 full levels tonight. (Much) more to come.
