It’s dinner time, which somehow makes it fitting to say our current chip leader is the player nicknamed “lasagnaaammm.” With 42 players left in the LAPT Bahamas Main Event, Mustapha Kanit enjoys the chip lead over the 75-minute break.

In addition to a long list of live accomplishments, Kanit won a big SCOOP title last May by taking down a $2,100 no-limit hold’em re-entry event for a $376K score, a prize comparable to that awaiting the winner of this event ($367,928).

It has been a steady stream of players to the payout desk over the couple of hours. Going back to the bubble bursting, players earning min-cashes shortly thereafter included D.J. Kelly (105th), Andy Frankenberger (100th), Michael Kanaan (97th), and Leif Force (96th) each of whom took away $4,860.

Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier made the next pay grade by finishing 93rd, as did Daniel Weinman (91st), Laurence Grondin (84th), Sam Chartier (82nd), and Mike Leah (81st). They each made $5,340.

Those going out in the next group included Dylan Lynde (71st), Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov (70th), Jim Collopy (68th), Amos Ben (65th), Marvin Rettenmaier (60th), and Joao Simao (59th), picking up $6,120 apiece for getting as far as they did.

After nursing a short stack of just at or under 10 big blinds for a couple of hours, Faraz Jaka finally lost the last of his chips during Level 18 to finish in 56th, the last player to earn $6,120.

Timothy Reilly (54th), Maurice Hawkins (53rd), and Charles Sylvestre (52nd) followed, as did the last remaining Team PokerStars Pro, Victor Ramdin (51st), thereby taking away an even $7,000 each. Then during the last half-hour a few more fell, culminating with Terrence Plummer whose ace-five couldn’t outrun Walter Fisher’s ace-eight, knocking Plummer out in 43rd, also for $7,000.

Dinner awaits. For some reason, pasta sounds good tonight. Back in a while to pick the action.
