Renata Teixeira maintaned the chip lead during the first half-hour of heads-up play versus Oscar Alache as the pair kept the pots small.

Two players, one trophy

Then came a hand in which Alache manage to draw out a full house, aces full of fours, and earned some value with a river bet to close the gap. A hand right after that saw Alache betting fifth street with the board showing a couple of kings, and when Teixeira called he mucked without showing.

Then on the last hand of the level another river bet by Alache went uncalled, and they moved into Level 30 (blinds 50,000/100,000, ante 10,000) with Alache having assumed the chip lead with about 4.3 million to Teixeira’s 3.7 million.

Oscar Alache

During Alache’s heads-up match with Uruguay’s Daniel Campodonico at the LAPT7 Peru Grand Final last October, the play had been similarly slow-paced. However while the duel then had been marked by a lot of passive play and preflop limping, here both Teixeira and Alache usually raised their buttons and frequently challenged each other postflop.

But Alache was whittling away at Teixeira. Her rail began their chants again, one blowing a horn occasionally to urge her onward. She three-bet before the flop and took down a small one. She’d crept back up around 3.4 million to Alache’s 4.6 million.

Then it was Alache opening for 250,000 from the button, and Teixeira three-bet to 700,000. Alache didn’t wait too long before announcing he was all in, and when Teixeira called both her rail and Alache’s considerable number of supporters together rose as one.

They tabled their cards.

Alache: 10ā™  10ā™¦
Teixeira: Aā™  Qā™

Teixeira stood and leaned over to shake Alache’s hand, then gave her supporters a wave.

A 3ā™„ 2ā™£ 9ā™£ flop was good for the Chilean, not so good for the Brazilian. The 3ā™£ turn then kept things right where they were. One card to go…

The 6ā™£ !

The crowd roared, with both players’ supporters showering the pair with applause. Alache had won a second LAPT title — almost back-to-back save the LAPT Bahamas event in between — while Teixeira had made it further than any women ever had before in an LAPT Main Event to finish second.
