Home / Uncategorized / LAPT8 Panama: Kazemiupur leads overall

Yesterday, Shakeeb Kazemipur fired a few bullets but failed to make it through the day.

He wasn’t done though.

Kazemipur came back today and the 20-year-old university student from Calgary ended up bagging 294,800. That’s 85,800 more than Andres Herrera –the day 1a chip leader– finished with yesterday.

This puts Kazemipur comfortably in the lead.

Kazemipur says the towering stack came from steadily chipping up throughout the day.

His first break came from a double early on in the day. Kazemipur picked up ace-king suited and raised a modest 3x. The cutoff three-bet, the button called and Kazemipur moved all-in. Only the button called and Kazemipur’s ace-king was up against ace-ten.

Kazemipur’s ace-king held and he doubled up to about 60,000.

After that, Kazemipur won a few big pots after players kept trying to bluff him with queen-nine offsuit.

The first would-be queen-nine bluffer was Ari Engel but Kazemipur had him dominated with queen-jack and called down a big bet on the river.

The second queen-nine bluffer bet all the way to the river of a 2-3-4-5-2 board but Kazemipur had 4-5 to take down the pot.

Let that bet a lesson to all of you.

If you’re up against Kazemipur, fold your queen-nines, even if they’re suited. Fold them even if you’ve hit a full house with them.

Ok, maybe not then.

Now Kazemipur’s off to bed and to prepare for a Sunday filled with poker.

“I’m gonna wake up and play SCOOPs on my phone,” Kazemipur said. “Hopefully I’ll be deep in those while I’m deep in this.”

Also hoping to make it deep in tomorrow are the remaining 125 players.

Team PokerStars Pros Andre Akkari and Christian De Leon failed to make it through day 1a but survived the day 1b onslaught. Akkari bagged up 48,400 to finish the day while De Leon finished with 91,000.
