Day 1B is done here in Lima at the Latin American Poker Tour Peru Main Event. As the day’s final level closed several players pushed ahead to challenge for the overnight chip lead, but in the end Lebanon’s Chadi Moustapha had collected the most chips of anyone, bagging 174,600 after the night’s final hands was dealt.

Chadi MoustaphaMoustapha will be starting tomorrow’s Day 2 as the overall chip leader, and will be looking to continue a quest to equal or better his final table showing at the BSOP Rio Quente event in May where he finished sixth. There will be plenty of competition to challenge him, however, including Argentina’s Emanuel Marso who after picking up some Level 10 pots ended today with 160,800.

Emanuel MarsoDaniel Ramirez (154,000) and Maximiliano “Pachi” Gallardo (142,100) will additionally be in the lead pack when play resumes on Sunday, with two-time LAPT Main Event winner Nacho Barbero (113,000) likewise positioned to make another deep run. And Scott Davies of the U.S. — winner of the World Series of Poker Asia Pacific Main Event a year ago — also has made it through to Day 2, bagging 43,000. There were 232 entries today, which added to the 134 from Day 1A meant a total of 366 for the event. The prize pool added up to $807,396, an amount to be awarded to the top 55 finishers with the winner due a handsome $156,576. Click here for a complete list of the scheduled payouts.

As players gathered to begin the day, we recalled the standard set by Day 1A chip leader Raul Alvarez who bagged 127,100 a day ago. The first minutes of the first level then amounted to a soft opening until the large Day 1B crowd at last had taken their seats.

The second Day 1 flight taking offA highlight early on was talking to Brazil’s Flavio Cautella, one of the many who satellited their way to a Lima trip and LAPT Peru entry — in his case for nothing at all after starting his tourney journey with a freeroll on PokerStars.

Players continued to come and go and in some cases come back again, and then post-dinner we found ourselves focused for a while on the play of two of the winningest players in the field in Dominik Nitsche and Ivan Luca.

Alas for both Nitsche and Luca — and Cautella before those two — they’d ultimately be sent railward along with several others, among them LAPT8 Panama runner-up Olga Iermolcheva and champion Shakeeb Kazemipur, LAPT7 Chile winner Mario Lopez, Alex Brenes, Lucas Fauth, Rafael Pardo, Mayu Roca, and Oscar Alache.

There were 77 who survived the day, and they’ll be joining the 52 Day 1A survivors tomorrow starting at 12 noon. Join us again then for continuing coverage from the Atlantic City casino here in Lima as we’ll continue to experience the unfolding story of the LAPT Peru Main Event.
