MicroMillions: EDWARDHOPPER tops leaderboard at halfway point

Today we reached the halfway point in the first ever PokerStars MicroMillions series. In just the first week, the new festival of tournaments for low-limit grinders has proven to be a success beyond everyone’s wildest expectations. Not only are players winning big prizes on their small buy-ins, but many of them are absolutely rocking the MicroMillions leaderboard. That’s for good reason. There is a ton of value in finishing on top.

At this hour, Denmark’s EDWARDHOPPER, a frequent name in the PokerStars tournament rankings, is on top of MicroMillions leaderboard with 305 points. Indeed, it’s due to a solid performance that includes 18 cashes and a final table. That said, it’s also a statement to the hours he’s putting in at the tables. The current stats show him playing nearly every one of the 55 events played so far. He’s clearly a man with first prize on his mind.

And why wouldn’t he be?

First place in on the MicroMillions leaderboard will award the winner a trophy and a 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure package. That means EDWARDHOPPER or whoever wins will pick up a free trip to the Bahamas, a full hotel package, spending money, and a $10,000 buy-in to the main event. That’s worth more than some MicroMillions prize pools.

There is more at stake. Places two through ten on the Player of the Series rankings will get a $1,050 SCOOP main event (medium) ticket. Places 11-100 will all earn $109 SCOOP main event (low) ticket. If you’re wondering why someone would stay up around the clock playing small buy-in events, that (and the huge prize pools) should offer some explanation.

Here’s how the Player of the Series rankings look right now.

Current PokerStars MicroMillions leaderboard

1. EDWARDHOPPER (Denmark) 305
2-3. AleksS69 (Russia) 290
2-3. GMalex89 (Spain) 290
4. jon011 (Estonia) 280
5. bem777ret (Russia) 255
6-7. Goral (Poland) 245
6-7. MrsButton (Canada) 245
8. Dart Serg (Russia) 230
9. L.A.COOL (Germany) 225

Seasoned PokerStats Blog readers might recognize that first name in the 6-7 slot. That man they call Goral from Poland is none other than Team PokerStars Pro Marcin Horecki. He’s put up sixteen cashes so far in the MicroMillions and is making a run for the title, as well.

The MicroMillions will run through this weekend and cap off with a $22 buy-in main event with a $1 million guarantee.

While the Player of the Series fight will get the most attention in the coming days, there are several other interesting statistics popping up at the halfway point.

  • Most money won: Swordsman888–$33,763.99
  • Most final tables: Liska01 (2)
  • Meanwhile, Russians are dominating the series in almost every other category. They currently account for the most entrants, cash won, final tables, events won, and total in-the-money finishes.
