micromillions-thumb-blog.pngEvery once in a while, an online poker tournament mirrors a marathon because you never know when it’s going to end. In this instance, Event #88 was a 16-hour slugout. The final table lasted so long that when the tournament reached its fifteenth hour, the final four players instantly agreed upon a deal to end the suffering. As one player succinctly explained, “Want sleep.”

Despite the sleep deprivation, yoyo149906 emerged as the victor in one of the longest-running events in MicroMillions II.

Event #88 $4.40+R NL (6-max, Action Hour) attracted 8,768 runners. The Action Hour format meant that players were treated to unlimited re-buys during the first hour of play. A total of 16,993 re-buys and 4,699 add-ons were added, which boosted the prize pool to $121,840. The top 1,140 places paid out with over $18,200 set aside for the eventual champion.

PokerStars Team Online Andre “acoimbra” Coimbra from Portugal continued his epic quest to play every single one of the 100 events on the MicroMillions II schedule. Check out Coimbra’s online diary as he recaps his ambitious journey.

Coimbra cashed in Event #88 but busted out in 558th place. On his final hand… Coimbra raised to 5,625, L.V.K.777 moved all-in over the top for 133,196 and Coimbra called. L.V.K.777 took A♦ K♥ in battle against Coimbra’s 10â™  10♦ . Classic race. Alas, an Ace on the flop sunk Coimbra’s dreams and his deep run had come to an abrupt halt in 558th place.

PokerStars Team Online Kevin “WizardofAhhs” Thurman hovered in the Top 23 in chips when action was near the money bubble, but once it burst, he’d struggle to stay in the top 100.

With 420 players remaining, mrcharming1 from Germany became the first player to pass the 1 million mark. At 250 to go, Anonoymous77 held the lead with 1.3 million and WizardofAhhs was slightly below average with 333K.

WizardofAhhs’ run fell short and he bowed out in 192nd place. Here’s how it went down… omaha1954 raised to 24,000, WizardOfAhhs raised to 41,209, and omaha1954 called. The flop was 8♣ 2♦ 2♣ . Omaha1954 checked, WizardOfAhhs bets 48,895, omaha1954 check-raised to 197,790, WizardOfAhhs raised to 346,685, omaha1954 bumped it to 495,580, WizardOfAhhs called all-in for 62,870, and omaha1954 called. WizardOfAhhs originally led with Aâ™  8â™  , but omaha1954 flopped trips with J♦ 2♥ . The turn was the 3â™  and the river was the 3♥ . Alas, omaha1954 rivered a full house and won the pot. Alas, WizardOfAhhs hit the road in 192nd place.

With 18 remaining, Russia’s GloomyAA was out in front with 10 million. With ten remaining, action stalled for a couple of levels. Everything went hand-for-hand with seven remaining on the cusp on the final table. Then firework ensued… Joel_AK raised to 875,000, JK ‘Ace’ vdV shoved all-in for 13,406,918, Joel_AK called all-in for 6,829,797. Joel_AK showed 3â™  3♣ against JK ‘Ace’ vdV’s A♥ 7♣ . The board ran out 9♦ 6♣ 3♥ 5♦ 8♣ . Joel_AK flopped a set but it didn’t hold up because JK ‘Ace’ vdV’s rivered a straight to win the pot. Germany’s Joel_AK bubbled off the final table in sixth place.

COME AS YOU ARE: fooofighters eliminated in 6th place

ANNA MARIE min-raised to 700,000, fooofighters bumped it up to 3,850,000, ANNA MARIE re-raised to 7,000,000, and fooofighters called all-in for 146,575 more. ANNA MARIE trailed with K♥ Q♥ against fooofighters’ A♥ J♥ . The board ran out 7â™  6♦ 3â™  8â™  Q♦ . ANNA MARIE rivered a Queen to win the pot, while fooofighters was the first player to bust from the final table. For sixth place, fooofighters took home $1,827.60.

LITHIUM: anti-rsca13 eliminated in 5th place

Short-stacked anti-rsca13 shoved for 2,702,570 and JK ‘Ace’ vdV called from the big blind. JK ‘Ace’ vdV led with Aâ™  5♦ against anti-rsca13’s Q♣ 6♣ . The board ran out Kâ™  9♣ 2♦ K♥ 10♥ and JK ‘Ace’ vdV won the pot with a pair of Kings and an Ace-kicker. Belgium’s anti-rsca13 earned $2,741.40 for a fifth-place finish.

With four to go, ANNA MARIE led the way with 30 million and GloomyAA was not far behind with 28.6 million.

DEAL?

Four-handed lasted much longer than the final four anticipated. When the tournament reached its 15th hour, a deal was floated. Everyone held between 20 and 31 million (with yoyo149906 out front with 31 million), which meant only 10 million separated all four in chips.

“Want sleep,” typed ANNA MARIE in the chat.

The final four quickly agreed on a deal that included: yoyo149906 ($11,939.29), GloomyAA ($11,371.43), ANNA MARIE ($10,472.83), and JK ‘Ace’ vdV ($10,246.50). A total of $800 was left off the top to pay out to the eventual champion.

POLLY: GloomyAA eliminated in 4th place

With a deal locked up, we finally had a bustout. GloomyAA raised to 2,000,000, JK ‘Ace’ vdV re-raised to 4,788,888, GloomyAA shoved for 15,130,139, and JK ‘Ace’ vdV called all-in for 10,341,251. JK ‘Ace’ vdV led with A♦ K♥ against GloomyAA’s A♥ Qâ™  . The board ran out J♣ 10♥ 3♦ 7♣ 4♦ . JK ‘Ace’ vdV won the pot with Ace-high and a King-kicker. Russia’s GloomyAA was knocked out in fourth place but took home $11,371.43.

With three remaining, JK ‘Ace’ vdV emerged as the chip leader with almost 47 million.

IN BLOOM: ANNA MARIE eliminated in 3rd place

ANNA MARIE raised to 4 million, JK ‘Ace’ vdV min-raised to 8 million, and ANNA MARIE called. The flop was Aâ™  10♦ 8♥ and both players checked. The turn was the 7♣ . ANNA MARIE fired out 4 million, JK ‘Ace’ vdV bumped it to 8 million, and ANNA MARIE called all-in for 3,256,561 more. JK ‘Ace’ vdV was out in front after flopping a set with A♦ A♣ . ANNA MARIE trailed with A♥ Q♣ . The river was the 6♣ and JK ‘Ace’ vdV’s set of Aces held up. ANNA MARIE was eliminated in third place, but earned $10,472.83.

HEADS-UP: JK ‘Ace’ vdV (Netherlands) vs. yoyo149906 (Canada)

Seat 4: JK ‘Ace’ vdV (61,129,178)
Seat 5: yoyo149906 (39,648,822)

With heads-up set, Canada’s yoyo149906 trailed JK ‘Ace’ vdV. It seemed as though JK ‘Ace’ vdV was going to put yoyo149906 away fairly early in their match, but yoyo149906 avoided an elimination early on and held his ground. And then yoyo149906 struck a major blow, doubling up with 8♦ 8â™  against JK ‘Ace’ vdV’s 2♦ 2â™  . That hand gave yoyo149906 almost 80 million in chips and he took a 4-1 edge.

Alas, when yoyo149906 had a shot to put away JK ‘Ace’ vdV, he failed to deliver a knock-out blow and he allowed JK ‘Ace’ vdV to double up and regain the lead. The lead swung back and forth like a pendulum. As soon as yoyo149906 was on top, he’d lose a decisive pot to JK ‘Ace’ vdV and the two would flip-flop.

SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT: JK ‘Ace’ vdV eliminated in 2nd place

On the final hand… yoyo149906 min-raised to 2,400,000, JK ‘Ace’ vdV shoved for 43,937,760, and yoyo149906 called. JK ‘Ace’ vdV was in trouble with 3♣ 3â™  against yoyo149906’s 6♦ 6â™  . The board ran out Kâ™  Jâ™  8â™  8♣ 5â™  . Both players made a four-flush, but yoyo149906 held a higher spade and won the pot.

JK ‘Ace’ vdV busted out in second place. For an impressive runner-up performance, JK ‘Ace’ vdV earned $10,246.57. Meanwhile, yoyo149906 won Event #88 and took home $12,739.29.
