Sunday. It’s generally a day that people around the world see as a chance to wind down and get ready for a dreaded Monday morning and a busy working week.

For 162 poker players in Macau, however, Sunday meant it was time for Day 1b of the MPC22 Red Dragon Main Event. That field was much heftier than the 110 who played Day 1a on Saturday, proving perhaps, that poker players would rather hit the poker tables on a Sunday.

There were 11 levels played on Day 1b and when the final hands were played at around 11:00pm local time, there were just 45 players still alive having secured a Day 2 berth.

Of those survivors it was Yi Min who bagged the most chips. His stack of 116,800 ended up little behind Day 1a chip leader Danny van Zijp who currently sets the benchmark at 137,500.

Day 1b chip leader, Min Yi

Min was the only player to reach a six-figure stack on Day 1b of the Red Dragon.

Those who got the closest, however, include Guangcheng Chen (93,600), Yuanye Chen (93,000), Yifan Zhang (84,000).

Some of the others who made it through Day 1b include Japan’s Hiroshi Matsumoto, China’s Xiaodong Lin, Fei Song and Qi Wang, along with Taiwanese pro Victor Chen and Malaysian pro Darian Tan.

In 2012, Tan made it to the final two tables of the Red Dragon, but ultimately fell short of making the final day of play. Tan is in the top ten all-time tournament money earners in Malaysia and will be looking to add more results to his resume at the MPC22 Red Dragon.

One of the many players to hit the rail throughout Day 1b of the Red Dragon was Team PokerStars Pro and Singaporean superstar Bryan Huang.

Huang’s final hand saw him open it up with a min-raise to 1,600 from late position before the player on his direct left three-bet to 4,000. Once the rest of the table was out of the way, Huang moved all in for over 10,000 and his opponent called.

Huang wasn’t in good shape with A♣ 6♥ against K♥ K♦ and the news didn’t get any better on a Kâ™  8â™  J♥ Q♥ 4♥ board. With that, Huang was on the rail, joining fellow Team PokerStars Pro and Day 1a casualty Aditya Agarwal.

Huang wasn’t the only one to find the rail on Day 1b as MPC20 Red Dragon champion Buyanjargal Bold, Taiwan’s Neo Chen and Carlos Chang, reigning Asia Player of the Year Pete Chen, former APPT Melbourne champion Sam Razavi and Canadian pro Christian Haggart just a few of the others to fall short of making Day 2.

Before Day 2 takes place, however, a new batch of players will hit the tables from 3:00pm local time Monday as the third of four Day 1 flights take place. Be sure to return to PokerStarsBlog then as we continue to provide coverage of the MPC22 Red Dragon Main Event!
