Another big field of 577 came out to play this week’s Super Tuesday, the weekly $1,050 no-limit hold’em event on PokerStars. Once again many of online poker’s best and brightest took to the tables, and after almost 11-and-a-half hours it was Eduardo “NeoForastero” Cervantes of Mexico topping them all to earn a nice $99,233.60 first prize a short while after having made a heads-up deal with Colombia’s puka27.

It would take a little over five-and-a-half hours for the field to be carved down to 72 players and the money bubble to burst. About an hour-and-a-half after that more than half of those had been knocked out and with 33 players remaining puka27, Maxim “$uperdecay” Lykov, and dragonwarior led the way as the only players with more than 200,000.

A half-hour more passed and they were down to 18, with dragonwarior the new leader with over 420,000, puka27 next with about 385,000, and Eduardo “NeoForastero” Cervantes third with almost 320,000 with Lykov still in the mix with an average stack.

Almost 90 minutes later nine more had seen their tourney runs conclude. sinergio (18th), Diogo “phounderAA” Veiga (17th), and XingsMaster (16th) each earned $4,616 for their finishes. Matt “seymouraces” Healey (15th), tiarc (14th), and Pressor (13th) were the next to go, taking away $5,770 each. Then Apostolis “apostolis20″ Bechrakis (12th), Maxim “$uperdecay” Lykov (11th), and tahi0009 (10th) were successively eliminated with each collecting $6,924 prizes.

As the nine-hour mark of the tournament approached and with fulham1212 the new leader with just over 530,000, the final table was underway.

Seat 1: Tom “tollgate” Grigg (Australia) — 489,352
Seat 2: dragonwarior (Canada) — 213,432
Seat 3: tnxcomeagain (Greece) — 241,884
Seat 4: Eduardo “NeoForastero” Cervantes (Mexico) — 302,260
Seat 5: fulham1212 (United Kingdom) — 530,550
Seat 6: puka27 (Colombia) — 341,115
Seat 7: Aaron “AaronBeen” Been (Mexico) — 375,391
Seat 8: Christian “eisenhower1” Jeppsson (Sweden) — 178,802
Seat 9: Carlos “Poeira4” Branco (Portugal) — 212,214

About 25 minutes after the final table began, the blinds were 4,500/9,000 when Christian “eisenhower1” Jeppsson opened for 18,000 from the cutoff seat, then watched Tom “tollgate” Grigg three-bet to 48,114 from the small blind. It folded back to Jeppsson who shoved all in for 212,787 total, and Grigg called right away.

Jeppsson turned over 10♦ 9♦ while Grigg had J♣ J♥ . The 9♥ Q♦ Jâ™  flop gave Grigg a set of jacks while Jeppson had an open-ended straight draw. The turn was the 2♣ and river the 10♣ , and eisenhower1’s two pair was second-best to end Jeppsson’s tourney run in ninth.

Nearly another half-hour would pass before the next knockout, during which the blinds increased to 6,000/12,000. A hand arose that saw Aaron “AaronBeen” Been open for 27,000 from UTG, then tnxcomeagain reraise all in for 181,882 from the cutoff and Been call. Been had 9♣ 9♦ and tnxcomeagain Aâ™  Q♦ , and five cards later — 2♥ K♦ 3♦ 7♥ 6♦ — the nines had held and they were down to seven.

They crossed the 10-hour mark while remaining in the same level, then it was Carlos “Poeira4” Branco open-pushing from the small blind for 101,464 and getting a caller in Tom “tollgate” Grigg from the big blind. Branco had Kâ™  Q♥ and Grigg A♦ 2♣ . The community cards came 7♣ 10♦ 6♦ , then 10♥ , then 3♣ , and Poeira4 was out in seventh.

Fifteen minutes later Tom “tollgate” Grigg was back at it with a min-raise to 28,000 from UTG. It folded around to Aaron “AaronBeen” Been in the big blind who pushed all in for 73,984 and Grigg called.

Been had J♦ J♥ while Grigg held K♣ Qâ™  , and after the 4♥ 3â™  5♥ flop and 6♦ turn Been’s pair remained ahead. But the river brought the Q♥ to give Grigg the better pair and knock out Been in sixth.

The blinds moved up again to 8,000/16,000, and soon Tom “tollgate” Grigg had become the short stack. That’s when Grigg open-pushed for 104,514 from the small blind and dragonwarior called from the big blind. Each had been dealt an ace, with Grigg’s A♥ 8♥ out in front of dragonwarior’s A♣ 4♣ . But the flop soon changed the situation, coming 5♣ 6♣ K♣ to give dragonwarior a flush and leave Grigg already drawing dead to finish in fifth.

Just a few minutes later puka27 opened with a 2x raise to 32,000 from UTG, then dragonwarior shoved for 361,358 from the button and after the blinds folded puka27 called. dragonwarior had 7♣ 7♦ and was hoping the pair would hold against puka27’s A♣ Q♥ . The Q♦ 5♦ 3♦ flop then gave puka27 a pair of queens while also giving dragonwarior a flush draw. The turn was the 10♥ and river the 4♣ , and dragonwarior was eliminated in fourth.

The final trio battled onward as the tourney neared the 11-hour mark, then with the blinds 9.000/18,000 it was fulham1212 raising the minimum to 36,000 from the small blind. puka27 responded with a three-bet to 90,000 from the big blind, then fulham1212 made a big shove for 602,611 and puka27 called.

fulham1212: A♥ 3♣
puka27: A♣ J♣

puka27 had the preflop edge, and would retain the edge after the community cards as well as the board ran out Q♠ A♦ J♠ 8♥ 9♥ to give puka27 two pair and knock pulham1212 out in third.

Eduardo “NeoForastero” Cervantes had the advantage to begin heads-up play with 1,504,340 to puka27’s 1,380,660. The pair played two hands with little change to their stacks then paused the tournament to discuss a possible deal. Numbers were produced leaving $8,000 for which to play and both players readily agreed, and soon cards were back in the air.

The two players would go at it for another 20 minutes, after which Cervantes led again after having lost the advantage. Then with the blinds 12,500/25,000, Cervantes raised to 50,000, puka27 raised to 125,000, and Cervantes called. The flop came 7♣ 5♦ Q♣ and puka27 checked. NeoForastero bet 100,000, and puka27 called. The turn then brought the K♦ and a 200,000 bet from puka27 which Cervantes called. The river was the 7♥ and puka27 made an all-in bet of 830,738, with NeoForastero calling one last time.

puka27 showed J♥ 10♦ , having barreled to the end after turning a straight draw which didn’t fill. Meanwhile NeoForastero had 7♦ 5♥ , having flopped two pair then rivered a full house to win the pot and the title.

Congratulations to Eduardo “NeoForastero” Cervantes for topping another tough Super Tuesday field for an almost six-figure score. And kudos as well to puka27 for making it to the heads-up deal and earning a nice payday as well.
