Home / Uncategorized / No foolin’: 711 play Super Tuesday (4/1/14); Marty “TheLipoFund” Mathis back-to-back heads-up!

So it’s April Fool’s Day, and after a day full of prank-filled shenanigans you’re probably expecting some kind of phony-baloney introduction to tonight’s Super Tuesday recap. But to be frank, the truth this week is wild enough it’s just going to have to do.

After eight straight 600-plus player fields in PokerStars’ weekly $1,050 no-limit hold’em tournament — including a record turnout of 688 four weeks ago — they finally did it this week… they broke the 700-player barrier! No shinola!

No, really, it’s true. Believe it.

There were 711 players in this week’s tournament, creating a $711,000 prize pool that was well over twice the $300K guarantee. And after 10 hours and 40 minutes two players earned six-figure scores after chopping the tourney heads-up.

Marty “TheLipoFund” Mathis came away with the win ultimately, earning $114,378.13 for his efforts, which is all the more incredible because he finished runner-up last week! Mathis has been on the PokerStars Blog radar for some time now. Runner-up Milana Jones won $116,696.87 thanks to the deal. Here’s the story of how the biggest ever Super Tuesday played out.

With such a huge field, it took five hours and 50 minutes for the cash bubble to burst. CaLLitARUSH was the unfortunate 82nd-place finisher missing the money by one after calling all in for a little over 18 big blinds with 9♦ 9♣ versus Xibummmmm’s 6♣ 6♥ , then watching a six come among the community cards.

About an hour later they were down to 36 players with Agentul05, FastCarsss, and Nicolas “niccc” Chouity sitting atop the counts while Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez had a spot just inside the top 20 with a below average stack.

Fernandez would hang on for about 45 minutes more, then finally with the blinds 1,800/3,600 open-raised a short stack of 33,333 all in from under the gun with A♣ 6♣ and got one caller in Nicolas “niccc” Chouity in the big blind with 2â™  2♥ . The board came 4â™  3♥ Kâ™  Q♥ 8♦ , and Fernandez was eliminated in 21st place for a $3,946.05 cash.

Victor church (20th) and torkolort1 (19th) both followed the Argentinian to the rail, also picking up $3,946.05, and with 18 players left Nicolas “niccc” Chouity, FastCarsss, and Shyam “G’s zee” Srinivasan were leading the way.

It took more than an hour more to play down to the final nine. RasA86 (18th), UltimaTefrQC (17th), and Pimmss (16th) each earned $5,332.50. tkcasino007 (15th), 2013 WCOOP Main Event champion PlayinWasted (14th), and pAAti23 (13th) took away $6,754.50 apiece. And damiancho2 (12th), danger0ous (11th), and Miguel “LOL_U_91” Use (10th) each cashed for $8,176.50.

With Xibummmmm having snuck ahead of Chouity into first position, the final table was underway.

Seat 4: Nicolas “niccc” Chouity (Lebanon) — 558,707

Seat 6: Xibummmmm (Brazil) — 584,410

Seat 8: FastCarsss (Sweden) — 300,258
Seat 9: Milana Jones (Russia) — 387,319

The final nine played just about one full orbit, then with the blinds at 3,600/7,200 Nicolas “niccc” Chouity raised to 14,400 from early position and Agentul05 called from a seat over. It folded to Keven “Stammdogg” Stammen in the big blind who reraised all in for 176,766 total. Then Chouity reraised all in for 479,957 and Agentul05 — who had niccc barely covered — called.

niccc: A♥ K♦
Agentul05: Q♦ Q♣
Stammdogg: A♦ K♥

The board rolled out Q♠ 7♥ J♦ J♥ 9♣ , giving Agentul05 a full house and knocking out Stammen in ninth.

Chouity, meanwhile, was suddenly down to just 11,172 — about one-and-a-half big blinds — and on the next hand was in the BB.

Xibummmmm opened for 14,400 from early position, and when it folded to Chouity in the big blind he called all in, showing 9♥ 5♦ to Xibummmmm’s A♥ 3♥ . The board came 3♣ Kâ™  10♦ J♣ 8â™  , and Chouity was done in eighth.

Play moved into Level 34, where the blinds were 4,500/9,000 with a 1,125 ante. Takapillu7 raised to 18,000 from early position, then Shyam “G’s zee” Srinivasan reraised to 47,600 from the small blind and Takapillu7 called.

The flop came 8â™  9♣ 4♣ . Srinivasan led for 43,700, Takapillu7 raised to 121,245, G’s zee reraised, and Takapillu7 called all in with the 90,438 left.

Takapillu7 had 8♦ 7♦ for eights but was drawing thin versus Srinivasan’s 9â™  8♣ for two pair. The turn was the 10♥ and river the K♥ , and Takapillu7 was sent off in seventh.

Another 45 minutes passed and there were still six left, with Xibummmmm leading and Milana Jones with the next largest stack. Then with the blinds 7,000/14,000, FastCarsss raised to 28,000 from under the gun, Marty “TheLipoFund” Mathis reraised to 60,600 from the cutoff seat, and when it folded back FastCarsss shoved for 313,116 total and Mathis called right away.

FastCarsss: A♠ Q♥
TheLipoFund: K♠ K♦

The flop came 8♥ 7♦ Q♣ to give FastCarsss queens, but the turn was the 6♦ and river the 4♦ , and Mathis’s kings held to send FastCarsss out in sixth.

Five minutes later Shyam “G’s zee” Srinivasan min-raised to 28,000 from the cutoff, then Marty “TheLipoFund” Mathis reraised all in from the small blind and when folded back to, Srinivasan called with the 236,675 he had left.

G’s zee had Aâ™  Qâ™  and the preflop edge over TheLipoFund’s K♣ 10♣ , but the board came A♥ 3♣ J♣ 5â™  2♣ to give Mathis a flush and send Srinivasan out in fifth.

Just a couple of minutes after that the blinds were 8,000/16,000 when Xibummmmm raised to 32,000 from UTG, Agentul05 shoved all in for 337,197 from the big blind, and Xibummmmm called.

Both players had aces, but Xibummmmm had the better kicker with A♣ Jâ™  versus Agentul05’s A♦ 5♦ . The 5♥ 2â™  9♥ flop then hit Agentul05’s five and after the 6♦ turn it appeared Agentul05 might survive. But the river brought the J♦ to hit Xibummmmm’s kicker, and Agentul05’s Super Tuesday run had ended in fourth.

Soon it was Marty “TheLipoFund” Mathis raising 2x to 32,000 from the button, Xibummmmm reraising to 71,589 from the small blind, then Milana Jones four-betting to 128,000 from the big blind. Mathis stepped aside, but Xibummmmm came back with another reraise to 208,989 and Milana Jones called.

The flop came K♠ 2♥ 7♥ , Xibummmmm bet 128,989, and Milana Jones called. The turn then brought the 3♣ and an all-in push for 349,261 from Xibummmmm, and Milana Jones called again.

Xibummmmm had A♦ 7♦ for sevens, but Milana Jones had A♠ A♣ and after the K♦ completed the board, Xibummmmm had finished third.

After that hand completed and another passed that saw Milana Jones raise the button and win, play was paused so the pair could discuss a possible deal to chop up the prize money. The payouts had a cool $133,668 due the winner and $97,407 the runner-up, but the pair wished to narrow the gap between those two prizes.

At that point Milana Jones had a small chip edge with 1,891,164 to TheLipoFund’s 1,663,836. A moderator arrived and the players asked for an “ICM”-based chop.

Whereas normally $6,000 is set aside for the winner in a Super Tuesday deal, in this instance that detail was overlooked and instead the figures produced divided all of the remaining cash with $116,696.87 being offered to Milana Jones and $114,378.13 to Mathis. The pair quickly accepted the terms, then play resumed with only TLB points left for which to play.

Milana Jones immediately began shoving every hand, with TheLipoFund folding the first two and then limp-calling the third with K♦ 10♥ versus Milana Jones’s 10♣ 4♣ . A four turned but a king fell on the river, and Mathis had a commanding lead.

Milana Jones would double on the next hand with the hand of J♦ 5â™  that outdrew Mathis’s A♦ 8♦ . Then came a push from TheLipoFund and a call from Milana Jones, with the latter holding 9♣ 6♣ to Mathis’s 10♥ 9♥ . The board came 4♦ 2♥ 9â™  Kâ™  10♣ , and Mathis won with two pair.

The win marked Mathis’s second Super Tuesday title in a little over three months, as he just won one on Christmas Eve 2013.
