Home / Uncategorized / PCA 2013: Liv Boeree’s lies

My boss just went to the PokerStars staff Christmas party. This would be a very good time for me to sneak out for an early pint. I could always tell him my internet went down or that a marmot committed an unnatural act on my mouse. It would be a white lie. Alas, the chief knows that my internet never goes down, I don’t use a mouse, and the marmot has a crush on my PokerStars monkey. There’s work to be done.

And so I sit and think about the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. It will be the tenth overall (my ninth), and it begins in just 29 days. My boss is fine with me going, but your boss may not be.

With that in mind, I’ve consulted the most devious and mischievous troublemaker I know. She’s a woman of such guile and mirth, I trust her implicitly when it comes of matters of white-hat deceit. I am, of course, speaking of Ms. Liv Boeree.

She is her own boss, so there’s not any telling her what she can and can’t do. That doesn’t mean, however, that she doesn’t have some damned fine ideas on how to convince your boss it is okay to sneak away for a week or to and go to the Bahamas.

Seriously, just believe anything she says

Boeree, as is her wont, was accommodating. When asked how she would lie to a boss to clear time for the PCA, she offered the following:

Liv Boeree’s Lies

  • Christmas means having the inlaws to stay, and that doesn’t count as a vacation. Hence, I need another two weeks in order to return refreshed and at full productivity
  • I got given a dog for Christmas, and as “a dog is for life, not just for Christmas,” I need to learn how to change my life for it.
  • I ate too much turkey and developed rare poultry amnesia. It affects the brain and one’s ability to remember “back to work” dates.
  • I got pregnant
  • While these views do not represent those of PokerStars or the PokerStars Blog, I can say from a personal standpoint that the above lies will work in almost all cases. In a pinch, use them all together (unless you’re a man, in which case you might leave out the last one).

In any case, you should know that this week is your last chance to win a $16,000 PCA prize package for $10. It’s your last best chance to get to the Bahamas for virtually nothing.

    And that’s no lie.

Brad Willis is the PokerStars Head of Blogging. He does not own a marmot.
