Liv Boeree and I have a little bit in common. Both of us are English, have worked in the poker media and have played in live events for PokerStars. I would not claim to be any more professional at the journalism side of things, but I don’t think there is any doubt who has done better at the playing bit; I took part in five EPTs and won absolutely nothing, Miss Boeree has won more than two million dollars, famously bagging the EPT San Remo title in 2010. And as I’m in a generous mood, I may as well admit that as she was born in 1984, Liv is significantly younger and better looking than me, and as she has a degree in astrophysics, she is considerably brighter, too (although it’s not rocket science).

I first got to know Liv during our early poker media work. I was working on The Sun newspaper in London and playing for PokerStars. Before long, I was working for the company, reporting on live events around Europe. Liv was fronting up videos for a card room at around the same time before quickly making her name as a player.

That San Remo win was no fluke, let me tell you. Prior to that, Liv, who comes from Kent in England and is a keen horse rider (that’s something else I can’t do as horses tend to bite me), had already bagged well over $150,000 in live tournaments, including a European Ladies Championship.

When she did win in Italy, I was delighted, just as I was when she signed up to join Team PokerStars Pro in 2010. As a mark of her popularity, the post I wrote welcoming her to the Team was one of the most read on this blog that year.

Since signing, Liv has been an enthusiastic ambassador for PokerStars and for poker in general, appearing in non-poker magazines and mainstream TV shows, all of which helps spread the message of playing poker to the masses.

And since signing, Liv has shown her game is improving all the time. Early in 2011 she won the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up for just shy of $150,000, and there have been more nice live scores, including $36,000 at the World Series of Poker Europe main event this year, and a chunky $80,000 for finishing runner-up in a £2K side event at EPT London soon after joining the team.

In total, Liv has more than $2.1 million in live winnings. I think I have around $5,000. Heads-up for rolls?
