PokerStars Championship Panama: High Rollers roll back in for the $10K

While the PokerStars Championship Main Event moves another step closer to Monday’s finale at the Sortis Hotel, Spa & Casino, another marquee event gets going today to share the spotlight — the $10K High Roller, sure to attract many of poker’s best and brightest.

Luc Greenwood won the High Roller at the inaugural PokerStars Championship in the Bahamas in January (a $25K affair), good enough to earn him a career-high score of $779,268. We’ve spotted Luc playing here this week along with his brother Sam (who also cashed in that same High Roller at the Atlantis), suggesting the twins from Toronto might be part of today’s field.

This marks the third marquee high roller of the series. Ben Tollerene captured the first one, the $50K Super High Roller in which he topped a 27-entry field to earn a handsome first prize of $538,715. Tollerene knocked out everyone on the final day in that one, including Steve O’Dwyer (fourth), Justin Bonomo (third), and Daniel Dvoress (second).

Tollerene followed the success of his one-time roommate Jason Koon who won the Super High Roller at PokerStars Championship Bahamas, so they recreated Koon’s winner picture to commemorate the matching show of strength.

Then it was Stephen Chidwick topping a 44-entry field in the $25K Single-Day High Roller for a $366,500 score, outlasting Koray Aldemir heads-up and a final table featuring Mustapha Kanit, Dario Sammartino, among other formidable foes.

Those first two high rollers each featured a 30-second “shot clock,” although this one will not. Today’s schedule calls for 10 one-hour levels, and there is a single re-entry option, which like late registration is available through to the start of Day 2.
