Home / Uncategorized / PokerStars Festival Hamburg: And then there were five

We’re down to five now on the final table of the PokerStars Hamburg Main Event, and we’re sorry to report that Team Pro Marcin Horecki was the first of the remaining eight to leave.

He’d been making an effort with his short stack, shoving at every opportunity. But immediately after one successful shove to pick up the blinds and antes, Horecki did it again but ran his Aâ™  8â™  into Ulrich Pauls’ A♣ A♦ .

Pauls, who has played some funky hands at times in this tournament, had woke up with the greatest starting hand in Hold’em at an ideal time. The pocket rockets held, and Horecki collected €11,770 for eighth.

Horecki’s gone

It was then Andrei Nodea’s turn to get dealt aces, and he managed to double up with them through Sweden’s Bo Rundström, who was on the bad side of a cooler with his pocket kings. Fortunately for Rundström, he managed to double shortly after with the K♣ Jâ™  over Michal Lubas’ 8♣ 8â™  .

Next to fall though was Lithuania’s Karolis Domarkas. He jammed for 700,000 – good for 12 big blinds – with the K♥ Q♥ and Pauls would try and play executioner once again with his A♦ 10♦ . The board ran out 5â™  2♦ 6♥ 6♣ 6â™  to keep Pauls in front, eliminating Domarkas in seventh (€16,990).

Domarkas down

The action calmed down somewhat for a while, until recently we lost Andrei Nodea in sixth (€22,770).

After Behzad Zarnegar limped, Michal Lubas did the same and that brought Pauls in too. Nodea then squeezed to 1.05 million, essentially an all in as he had just 75,000 behind. Zarnegar got a count, and then jammed himself for 1.6 million. The others folded, and Nodea immediately verbally called Zarnegar’s hand: aces.

His A♥ J♣ was up against the A♦ Aâ™  , and couldn’t find any help on a low board.

No good for Nodea

After a short break, the final five are back in their seats. Here’s how they stack up with blinds going into 50,000/100,000/10,000:

Position Name Chips
1 Michal Lubas 7,200,000
2 Ulrich Pauls 4,200,000
3 Behzad Zarnegar 2,900,000
4 Jan Sigel 1,900,000
5 Bo Rundström 930,000
